Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf

More details unfolded today concerning both user created and licensed course distribution for the console versions of JNPG. Andrew Jones, President and COO of Perfect Parallel, made the follow comment in the official forum about this:

"On the subject of user courses I cannot see any way MS would allow external files to be added. So that will leave us with approved DLC as the way to go. Unfortunately to ensure that all courses meet the minimum FPS standards we will probably have
to work on a number of the user courses before they could be added to DLC. In addition I cant see real courses being added unless we have a license which is why we have started working so hard on getting these licenses coming in although we are not
in a position to pay anything up front for them

So it will be a bit of a wait and see exercise I am sure as to what can and cannot be included"

I then asked if the DLC for user made courses could be offered as "free" DLC, to which he responded:

"To the extent that we dont incur costs and user courses have no licensing issues I see no reason why we would not bundle them as Free DLC for consoles. There will be licensed courses where we have to pay for the license where they will be Paid DLC.
IF the paid DLC is popular we will get more licenses and release more real courses. One fo the advantages of where we are today is courses we are negotiating with today will be for all platforms.

We are currently in negotiations with Quail Hollow, Congressional and Royal Troon. It is highly likely these will be paid DLC due to licensing needs. If the volume of downloads is high enough we will continue to push for these deals and the more evidence
we have of volume the easier it is for us to reduce the cost of the license per course which of course makes the DLC cheaper. If the volume is not there then we will probably go with a different approach for consoles"

This sounds like a pretty equitable solution to the obstacles that Perfect Parallel would face with the prospect of storing user created content on a PS4 or XBox One owner's hard drive that was transmitted via PSN or XBox Live.

We'll see.I hate Golf but for some reason have always liked playing Golf games.

So far the Golf games on the Xbox One have been a bit of a let down,Powerstar Golf has probably been the most fun but that's more of an arcade game.

Will wait & see if this is any good after release,especially after paying full price for the awful Golf Club at release.

Perfect Parallel showed a screen a few days ago from the forthcoming JNPG Windows 10 version, showing the Turf Effects, 3-D fairway grass. We also see glimpses of the new hi-res golfer models that will be used in the game in this shot, although from the
postures shown in the image, they're not doing anything that would suggest that they are tied into mo-capped data just yet. I do find the level of detail impressive though!

The Golf Club did not come across well on the XBox One, IMO. It orginally launched at 720p (six months later it got bumped to 900p), and had really short draw detail distances, compared to the PS4 version, which launched at 1080p, and had what appeared
to be twice detail draw distance of the XB1 version. The XB1 version also seems to average about 28 FPS on the XB1, and ~33 FPS on the PS4.

The thing that put me off most about The Golf Club was how easy it was to hit the ball straight, and how easy it is to 'dial up' a custom shot using the shot shaper, and still swing away with a 100% swing. It feels more like you're entering coordinates
for a laser guided lawn darts game than golf because of this. JNPG requires you to modulate shots more so through swing length and speed, as the shot shaper doesn't give you nearly as large a range of control. This feels better to me than flailing away in
almost every shot.

Finally, JNPG allows you to swing the club with the old fashioned, 3-click swing, real time mouse swing, delayed motion swing (also with the mouse), and real time controller swing (my preference), plus there are five levels of difficulty in the game. I
started at Hacker (the next to the easiest), and I've worked my way up to Tour Pro, where I'm delighted to break 70, when I can. JNPG feels like a more realistic and satisfying game of golf to me. I hope that proves to be the case on the XBox One version
for you.

I'm a buy day one as an XBox One owner, even though I'll also be buying the Windows 10 PC version. I like having the flexibility to take my XBox One with me, and have a quality game like JNPG as an option when I'm on the road.
