I remember the Xbox one. People said it was the way of the future, everything kinect, no backwards compatible, DRM, always on. Fast forward a couple of years and so much has changed (for the better!)

I am stunned anytime people pre order any thing (video games, hardware etc.). You tie up a bit of cash to secure a unit that will inevitably be available to anyone on day one regardless. In addition, you are also setting yourself up for major let down
once the realization of what you received really isn’t all that it was cracked up to be.

Day one is always *** and it will be several months before the features original promised are patched in or workable.

I see where your coming from and I'm not 100% convinced about Scorpio yet. I'll just get my deposit down so if come launch I'm really liking the look of it I know I'm guaranteed it day one. Luckily though the deposit is refundable if I decide against it.

What's got me slightly feeling let down this gen is all the talk about POWER. First it was the 720/900/1080p debate. With Xbox One S, PS Pro and Scorpio it's 4K, upscaled, native etc. It seems the days are gone where the main talk is about gameplay, the
first thing we hear now is how many pixels the game is throwing about. I like nice graphics as much as anyone but if the game is crap it's crap whether running at 720p or 4K. My opinion graphics do not automatically mean a great game.

I think a lot of blame lays with the more well known sites. One example, Eurogamer, when F1 2016 released, it wasn't a review but rather a comparison video between XB1 and PS4, this was great click bait for the fanboys but a real pain in backside for the
average gamer just looking to have fun.

 

Thumbs up @Lofty. Us gamers are suffering from the, oooooo, ahhhhhhh, look at my shiny tv and game. Theses so called gamers who know nothing about overall gameplay and fun are influencing the developers to much. I'm tired of all the pixel talk and baloney.
The satifiscation of playing a game from launch without any post visual upgrades or gameplay issues are gone!! What is more disturbing is that the creator's of the content say they are advid gamers but the "so called finished result" does not state that!

It's honestly getting beyond a joke now. Some people have actually asked did Microsoft and Sony feel pressured by all the "power" talk and that's why we are seeing sooner than most thought new/upgraded consoles? To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if this
is the case. Sure technology moves on, some saying now quicker than before but for me personally ( maybe I'm easily pleased ) but I think today's consoles more than do the job, not just in the visual department but some fantastic games with great stories/campaigns.

So we just had the Xbox One Slim, November sees the PlayStation Pro, next year Scorpio but there's already talk of Microsoft planning hardware after Scorpio, rumour Sony will reveal PlayStation 5 at E3 so ( if true ) will developers actually have the time
to get the best out of each platform/hardware? I still don't think we've seen the true potential of Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

It sort of reminds me of football managers here in the UK. Few bad results and their sacked. Very few are given enough time to actually build a team, it takes time, sadly today people's patience doesn't last long.

Maybe that was the case with the Xbox One, but it's not with most new consoles. PS3's were selling on eBay for nearly $2k on release day and PS4's were going for around $700 because they were sold out in stores.

 

^ Yep and you couldn't get a 360 in the UK for love or money for a good while..

 

And I didn't pre order the XB1 Day 1 but still picked it up on Day one on someone elses order. Yep, called EB and spoke to a staff member I knew who left one aside for me. So I never need to pre order consoles or games unless I'm super desperate which rarely
happens. In this situation I'd be getting a PS4 and waiting, why not have everything? It's not like I'm upset for not pre-ordering no mans sky.

 

@lofty/ elohm £500-600 would be my guess, 6tf is cheap and cheerful now so by release should be doable by Ms easily enough.

I'm putting my money on game devs using some off res most of the time and upscaling the rest of the way so they don't have to butcher the quality though, 6tf will buy you a flawless 1080/1440p res in most games but at 4k no chance I have games that push
me down into the low 30's with twice the power of Scorpio.

 

JamboFirstBlood there is a big difference between £600 in US Currency Exchange.
£600 at this time is about $780 US. Way, way, way too much imo.

 

Like I said I know the console will most likely be there day 1, but I have a crazy wife and putting a few euro on it each week is the best way to keep her off my back lol. This way softens the blow.

 

I'm taking a wait and see approach and waiting for the final specs. If it's just for V.R. it's going to be a pass.

I'm wondering if this was the cost how many would be put off? Or at least wait until the price drops.

Could Microsoft afford to take a loss on each console sold to shift the units?

Xbox One + Kinect launched at £430 here in the UK. I'm making a guess now that Scorpio will launch at £499

 

Anybody have little kids like 10 and under that want a free game? I have a spare code for a game called Obliteracers. It's Mario Kart-esque. If so just message me.

 

Microsoft isnt going to be selling scorpio exactly according to google currency convertor. Theyll want to add several dollars extra for different countries.

When xbox 1 launched it NZ with kinect. Microsoft charged $749. But guess how much EB Games sold it for? 100 cents less! Thats 100 cents less microsoft got out of me, and i had a wooo about it. I think Microsoft overcharges the NZ market sepecially since
NZ $ = 97 australian cents and when you compare prices between NZ and Australia you can see theyre ripping of NZ.

 

Take it with a pinch of salt as there's loads of rumours going about but it was all over Twitter yesterday that more details on Scorpios specs were leaked

Apparently it will release with 12GB Ram
