Its there but it isn't

Bought an xbox one S.

Connected it up and it woks OK, games, browser, downloads etc everything seems fine.

But when I go into the menu & check connections/inputs on the xbox it says no HDMI device detected.

So I started over from scratch & reconnect everything up to the TV & did a hard reset but it still says no HDMI device connected.

But its plugged into a LCD HDMI TV with the HDMI cable that came with the console, otherwise there would be no picture & just a black screen.

The ps3 & ps4 both detect the TV when connected through the same HDMI port, so does everything else that I have ever plugged into it but even though the xbox is up and is running it says it is not connected to a HDMI device.

Gamertag taken but it isn't?

If the system says it's in use, then it is somewhere on Microsoft's servers and can't be used. Tags are used on other Microsoft services as well. So even if they don't show up as an Xbox gamertag, they might be in use on another service and wouldn't show
up if you tried to send them a friend request. The person who is using it might also have different spaces in it. The system sees "GamerTag" as the same thing as "Gamer Tag" So if you look up one and not the other, it might not show it to you, but it's still
in use.

I was thinking of new gamertags and then i thought of a great one and checked if it was available on 2 websites and they insisted it's available. but when i tried to change to that gamertag xbox live said the gamertag is taken. not being too sure what to
believe, i tried to send a message to that gamertag and xbox live says that no account under that gamertag exists.

WHAT!?!?

I'm wondering if the gamertag comes under any copyright laws (because it's pretty famous) because it isn't rude and i can't think why else it wouldn't allow me to take it.

Anyone know what's going on?

Kick myself really hard for buying an xbox one s.

About 3 montsh ago I bought forza horizon 3 for PC, but that game also came with the xbox one s console as a digital download, So I just got a card with a code OK..

I phoned xbox support and asked could I exchange it because I already had it for free because the PC version I bought is a play anywhere game.

They said no because it is worthless,,, even though it has never been used and is still intact. They said go back to the shop and ask them because it has nothing to do with us.

So I went back to the shop & they said no,its worthless, go and ask Microsoft to exchange it because it came with the console & has nothing to do with us.

Someone is telling lies..

These play anywhere Digital games are a scam, but you only find that out when something goes wrong.

I paid $400.00 for an xbox, $20.00 for a charge cable, $160.00 bucks for Horizon 3 & the Blizzard Mtn add-on, $50.00 plus bucks for an online pass and they are too Stingy to swap a game for me.

It's not costing anyone a cent, but me.

To start out, are you not getting any picture on your television or is it just saying that you're not connected to a device? If you're getting video but it's showing as connected, while it's odd you shouldn't need to worry. If you're not getting picture, can
you test with a different HDMI cable to see if there's any change? Thanks!

Yep its strange, I'm getting a picture & everything works fine but the xbox keeps telling me that something is wrong with my connection & that I am not getting a picture. It says that I need to connect a HDMI cable to fix it, which seems a little dumb because
if what it is telling me was actually true; how would I be able to see this message?

Anyway, I have tried 3 different cables & three different HDMI ports on the TV, but I continue to get the same message each time. And like I said the ps3, ps4 & my Pay TV connect OK through the same cables & ports without errors.

I'm not too concerned at the moment because it is obviously just a glitch & it doesn't seem to affect gaming or anything else (so far), but I'm just worried that it may be a faulty console & further down the road it might give up the ghost altogether. Will
try again with an expensive top of the line HDMI cable and if it doesn't sort itself I will take it back to the store.

Can you share the make and model of your television? Generally the TV sends a digital signal back to the Xbox One to notify it's connected and I'm wondering if perhaps the TV isn't sending that signal despite displaying fine.

 

Its a 2014 Sony Bravia KDL-50R550A which is an Australian model or - (Asia Pacific region).

I took a look to see if there any recent updates, but it looks like the last update released was in 2014. If you haven't already, make sure that your TV is fully up to date. Do you happen to have a second TV available to test to see if there's any change?

 

I have tried a brand new HDMI cable, Sony TV is up to date with the last firmware released & I have also plugged it into my Q7 series Samsung HDR QLED TV. This Q7 TV is still the current model & is still receiving firmware updates.

But I'm afraid none of these attempts to resolve the issue has made the slightest difference. It gives the same error message on startup.

Are you sure that the xbox is not supposed to display this message if no cable TV/set top box is connected?

The reason I ask this is because out of sheer frustration I plugged my PS4 into the HDMI in port on the xbox one s & the message goes away at boot-up.. Funny thing is that the xbox just accepts the PS4 without any problems whatsoever.

 

To clarify, did you previously set up a cable box with your Xbox One? I was under the impression your Xbox One was not detecting your TV.
