  1. It shouldn't take 3 days to to get a game started!

So this is absolutely ridiculous. I am 37 years old, and I have not had a gaming system other than my iPad since my PS2 in the early 2000's. So my girlfriend gets it in her head I want an Xbox for my birthday yesterday. We go to game stop and buy a brand
new XBox One S with 1 Terra and Gears of War 4.

Silly me, I thought I could go spend $400 on a brand new product, take it home, plug it in and start playing a game.

I guess I sound really stupid to all the folks out there who have stayed in the gaming scene all these years.

So I get home after fighting the days after Christmas spoiled teenager crowd at Game Stop, I open my XBox, plug it in and get ready to play...... Ha freaking ha was that the dumbest expectation ever.

First off, I cant stand how basically all technology these days has to be updated right out of the box. So of course, as soon as I plug my XBox in, I have to start a 1 to 2 hour update process. Is it me or should something brand new right out of the box
that i just spent a nice chunk of change on, be ready to go right away? I understand the world we live in, but you would think Microsoft could at least make it so your brand new toy updates in a max of 15 - 20 minutes. Spending all night updating before you
even turn the damn thing on is ridiculous. To make matters worse, the stupid system automatically shuts itself off if you don't push a button and every thirty seconds or so. Me, being the un-savvy tech guru that I am, decided to switch my TV input back to
DirecTV and watch my Rockets kick the crap out the Mavericks, figuring all my updating would be done by the time I watched the basketball game. Nope. The damn thing quit half way through and had to be prompted again when I changed my input back to the HDMI
location my XBox is plugged into. So after about 3 hours, my XBox finally turns on. Hoo-freaking-ray.

So the bundle I bought comes with Gears of War 4 right, the actual disc I plug in and play ...... I am thinking 'Here I go, I plug the game in, and BAM, I should be shooting **** in the next five minutes.' Oh how the Techno Gods were looking down on me laughing.
Another update. And when I say update, I mean it's looking like it might take 3 or 4 days to complete this download/ update/ install or whatever it is. I plug the game and follow the prompts and start the download. After watching it download, and stay and
0% for over ten minutes, I start to get the idea this will take all night. So I read a book for a while, watch the news and check back on my download status. Made it all the way to 3% before I decided to turn the TV off and go to bed. I didn't turn the Xbox
off, and it was busy doing a download task, so it should just keep downloading ll night right? Wrong again. I get up this morning and find the XBox is turned off. So I turn it on and look at my GOW4 status and see it says its ready. All right, I'm pumped,
I'm gonna blow something up before work this morning. BIG FAT NEGATIVE. Come to find out, it has only downloaded enough to let me open the game menu, but hey, at least the graphic of the soldier is an impressive digital image, so I got that going for me. So
I get the download going again, and I try to figure out why it didn't download continuously all night. I turn off all energy saving modes I can find, and I see where they keep a log of you activity and I wonder why there was zero activity for the hours from
1 am to 8 am when it should have been downloading the game I purchased and then followed all the prompts to install.

So am I doing something completely wrong here? What the **** is making it take several hours if not a few days to install this one and only game that came with my console?

My internet is fine. I watch Netflix with no porblems. I run my laptop and a huge and very serious engineering estimating construction software off it though the internet. I run 2 i Pads with no problems and play all kinds of games on them. I don't have
any problems with my phone WiFi in my house.

I mean is it me, or it the idea that you buy something from a store, take it home and open it up and plug it in just to spend multiple multiple hours updating and installing and downloading before you can even use it, is just a bunch of bull ****. I am tempted
to take it back and stick with my iPad.

    :)

How long should it take to get started ?

If you have the disc, go offline and then install: it will upload the game from the disc itself which usually is faster. If you stay online for installation, the console tries to download from a server. As metioned every game has updates...just as big as
the game itself at times. . Depending on how fast your download speed is, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

    Hi

Please be patient with the latest generation of consoles the total game size can easily be in excess of 50GB in size and this will take a while to download.

If possible connect the console to the Internet using an ethernet cable as this will help to get fastest possible connection.

It shouldn't take 3 days to to get a game started!

I had a very similar experience. Receiving the system as a gift from my wife. Having had many consoles over the years, a 360 that was retired for the new Xbox one. As my gaming has matured with me over the years I turned to plug and play consoles over PC
gaming. Mainly due to less and less time to enjoy it. I too was completely disappointed with the initial setup and wait to play experience. Frustrated with two and a half days before I could actually play a game. Having to download an app to even play a blu
ray movie. Having spent some time playing and learning the new system I still haven't completely lost the bad taste it left. I can only hope it continues to Get better than what I have experienced so far.

Yeah I had purchased the xbox one s as well with GoW4 as well though I got the digital download version. But I new going in a head of time that the newer consoles are basically like little pc's. Games are no longer played from the disc they are installed
from the disc as well as updates/patches etc. So I just wrapped the empty xbox box and then spent a week downloading games (digital), updates, apps etc. then put it away for Christmas. Christmas rolls around and low and behold had another update and then
controller updates. Then my kids wanted to play games we had purchased physical copies of... HAHAHAHA those took hours of installing and downloading as well.

It's not ideal by any means... PC is even worse really no a days as you have the physical copy of the game but it insists on downloading the entire game from the net. At least consoles install from the disc and pick up the updates and what not online then.

    Xbox Live Renewal???

they normally take it out of my card about 3 days or so before my gold expires, which is the 19th of this mth, yet they took it out today, so if it takes 3 days, shouldn't my account be updated 3 days later?

    Day Zero? What a joke...

Anyone have the console? 1 TB of disc space, 78 MBPS Download speed. went to 99% and started over at 0% Now its taking 1 hr to get past 3 %. I get that servers are hit hard, but shouldn't a console already have the game loaded?

    Tips.

Well, as Sir Azalot said, just start playing the game a bit. Get used to it. It only takes about 3 days to train up. Play with friends, etc.
