It says I've already changed my gamertag once but I've just only made this account.

So I'm one of the people who made an xBox account to play sea of thieves. I set it all up fairly quickly and joined the free trial of xBox Gamepass to see if I like the game or not. Eventually I decided I'd buy it since it's quite fun, but I wanted to change
my gamertag first, I've checked how to do it, but it says I've already used my free gamertag change. Now I remember when setting up my account I joined with my microsoft account and had some weird gamertag I'd never seen before so I thought that was just randomly
generated for the people who join with an already existing microsoft account and changed it to my liking. Could it be that someone hacked my microsoft account and made an xBox account with it? I don't have any games in my library so that doesn't sound plausible,
but if that isn't the case, then why can't I change my name? It'd be ridiculous to count changing a randomly generated name (again, if it is one) as your free gamertag change.

How did you think of your gamertag?

I've used this username well before I made my gamertag, so it was only fitting to make my gamertag this. I've never changed my gamertag and I never will. I've had my gamertag for 7 years

 

Microsoft Solataire

Recently I updated my pc to 8.1 and my Microsoft Solataire gamertag changed and now it is not in sync with my xbox console. I've changed my gamertag once already and I don't want to do it again.

 

The free change is only given if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. The tag you're posting with is not a randomly generated tag so you will have to pay if you want to change
it.

 

Oh so if I understand that right, you are never meant to be able to change for free if you've already manually once selected one? I see then, thanks for clarifying!
