so i thought this was an interesting
Reality Check video about how many gamers there are in the world, and age groups which was surprising to me that the number of gamers under the age of 18 has the smallest percentage of total gamers:

29% under 18

32% 18-35

39% for 36+

average age 31

i always assumed that younger gamers would outnumber the older because has we get older, we have more things to be doing other than playing games, and the younger generation would have more free time to play.

i'm 36 years old, my first game i can remember playing is Thexder in 1985 on a monochromatic Toshiba laptop, a lot has changed in 30 years.

what do you think about those percentages?

Its all about gears for me

 

I find it surprising also , was thinking on same lines as itself , how ever it's good to know , not a lot of my friends who I see face to face play games and I'm always looking to hook up with other older gamers willing to socialise whilst playing games
, talk movies , tv series , books blah blah blah , I'm 40 and from uk man , what time zone u in

 

I'm a bit surprise,to see old people as a majority...I thought the average age was around 20,not 31.

I thought i was the one and only old,the wise.

 

I've always worked in and around IT/Telecoms and have found there are always people who play games. Been playing since i was around 4 on the amstrad! 23 years on from that and still going strong!!

 

Its not to surprising really. Most young people would struggle affording gaming as a hobby. You would also think boy's and girl's would be more interested in each other rather than sat looking at a screen all the time. As people get older they settle down
into a steady job and family life and generally have more time and money to play game's.

 

Yop, but when i started to play videogames,in the late 70's,console were very expensive,only for gaming and videogames weren't popular.

Now it's a well known entertaiment,consoles are entertaiment systems (for whole family),can be played on several devices (phones,tablets).So, easier to be caught by the gaming fever,especially youngsters....

Seems,they aren't....

 

I was surprised that out of 1.2 billion gamers only 52% were male. I'm glad it's pretty much even.
