Issues with updates on Xbox ONE

So they always downloaded no problem up until a month ago. Now it will take about an hour to download a 258MB update. Sometimes I turn it off and on about 10 times until it kicks in and does it normally which is like under a minute. Big games that I buy
are fast too. It's just the updates.

When I try other devices when this is happening they are fine and very fast. I turn everything off hoping it will help but it doesn't so I can't see a bandwidth issue because it will eventually work properly by restarting.

Could my console be dying? While it was struggling to download a tiny file I tested my PC at the same time and it downloaded a 5GB file lightning quick. What can I do to fix it? It's onlt the Xbox ONE console and only during updates.

Could it be that your console is also downloading (or updating) a game at the same time?

I found a couple times that I had started a download of a game (FIFA 15 in one case) and then saw there was an update, so started that. The actual console update took *forever* as you are reporting, but when it finished updating and had rebooted, the game
was almost completely downloaded and if I went to Settings/Network/Bandwidth Usage the console had downloaded some 6GB while the update was just 250MB.

I was able to replicate a couple times; for whatever reason, the console seemed to be allowing content downloads while also updating, which slowed everything down. Could that possibly be the reason?

If so, in future make sure to manually pause any and all other downloads you may be doing before initiating a system update.

If that's not it, I don't really have any other suggestions and it may be worth doing a total factory reset. You probably know this, but that means you'll have to re-download all digital games, re-install all disc games, re-download any title updates for
disc games and re-download any and all DLC you have purchased, whereas game saves are backed up to the cloud and will be re-synced the first time you play each game.
