this is a lingering problem that really started ever since the UI change. The app finds the Xbox in my network, but it isn't able to power it on. Yes it is on instant on mode as usual. I have to go and power it on manually and power it off and THEN
I'm able to power it on from the app. But when I don't use the Xbox for a day, it goes back to acting up again. On another note...I'm also having a similar issue with remote downloading games...it doesn't work it just puts it in the "install" list.

    :)

  3. Changing gamer tag

You can't change a gamertag into a previously owned one but you could sign in to the Windows 10 Xbox app with the old one though.

This link will give you you all the info you need to sign in to the Xbox app on Windows 10.

Hey guys. I've run into this before, and was able to fix it with a full reboot of the console. Open the guide, go down to the Settings tab, and choose Restart console. Also, check for updates in the Store on your PC, to make sure your Xbox app is up to date.

Sometimes, you will have to choose Forget console in the app, and add it again

Same problem - If I manually turn it on, it streams fine and everything works as it should. But if the console is off, I can't remotely turn it on from the app. I have tried resetting the console and forgetting and adding it again. The issue persists. Would
    appreciate a fix.

We were unable to turn on your console. Make sure this device is on the same network as your console and your console is set to instant on.

So is there any update on this issue? I can connect to my xbox as long as it is on but if its powered down, the windows 10 app will not power it back on.
