Issues with my external SSD for my Xbox Series X

    Hello,

So recently, I have been having issues with my 8TB Samsung SSD that I use with my Xbox Series X (I know that it seems a bit overkill, but that's great in my book). When trying install certain games to this external SSD, my Xbox would stop the installation, try again, and repeat for a few times. Eventually, I began consulting websites to see if there was anything to remedy the situation. Naturally, I came across one that said to try and reset the console. When I did this, I chose to keep all the games and apps I had installed since trying to reinstall them all would have been an enormous pain. However once I completed this, I discovered that my Xbox would only recognize 8 out of the myriad of games that I had installed. I know that all of them still exist on the SSD as it is listed as having the exact amount of space used as before I had reset the console. Is there any way to get my Xbox to recognize the x amount of other games I have installed there? Regardless, thank you for your help.

    :)

Pre download Xbox Series X games

    Not really...

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

    As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

    Choosing a hardrrive

Fair enough, a slow internet connection is as good excuse as any.

Be aware however that while that drive will work on Series X, you won't be able to play Series X games directly from it. Series X games will require faster access and read speeds. My understanding is that the Series X games can be 'backed up' on an external
drive and then need to copied/moved over to either the internal SSD or the External SSD's that will be available for the machine.

The Series X will read and play Xbox One games from an external drive though.

xbox series x seagate from xbox one not showing any games when plugged into the series x

    Hi,

Do you still have your Xbox One and does your external hard drive still work on that console?

I have successfully connected both my Seagate 'Game Drive' and my external SSD USB 3.0 drives to my Series S without any problems. All my installed games show up fine.

The Series X/S supports the same external drives as the Xbox One/S/X support. If your drive isn't being detected it's probably become corrupted or has a hardware issue.

Why can't you play series x games on ext ssd?

So the external seagate ssd for xbox is usb3.0 with 500mbps read and write speed right? I have two of them and i see alot of people saying "its because the external ssds are too slow to play games on,you can only play series x or enhanced one x games on internal or the seagate expansion ssd card" but alot of external ssds are fast enough? No?

Any news on an official SSD expansion card of bigger size than 1tb?

They will eventually, that's pretty certain, but at the moment there would be a cost issue. In the meantime you could go the hybrid route and buy a SATA SSD and connect it to the console either via a SATA to USB adaptor or a 2.5" Drive enclosure.

I have a Series X with the 1TB expansion card and a 2TB SATA SSD. I put all the Series X and optimised games on the internal or expansion card and the rest run off my external SSD. My SSD is a Crucial MX500 and the loading times for Xbox One titles are excellent.

Don't bother with the faster (and more expensive) NVME drives that can be connected via USB you'll not be able to achieve the advertised speed on a console.
