    Issues with any headset

So I have had my Xbox One for a little over a year now. I originally used the generic headphones until they stopped working. When that happened I bought an Xbox Stereo Headset Adapter and have used my Turtle Beach PX4's since then(about 4 months).

About two weeks ago I was in the middle of a conversation(and game) with a buddy and he cut out. I could see in the party that he was talking but I could not hear him. He could hear me just fine. I have been unable to hear anyone in chat since then. The
only thing that works is if I disconnect my headset from the controller, then the Kinect will kick in and take over as my mic, then I can hear my party just fine. I was even able to hear them for about 5-10 minutes one day when I connected my controller to
the Xbox One via USB, but that no longer works either.

I thought that maybe my PX4s died, they work just fine on my PC and PS4. I went and bought a pair of Turtle Beach Earforce XO One's and had the same issue. So I returned them and picked up a new controller thinking that was the issue. So I bought the Midnight
Forces Xbox One controller. Still have the same issue. I have gone through the settings menu and updated the controller, the Kinect menu and unchecked the "Use Kinect microphone for chat" box and then can't talk, my network is NAT type: Open and all tests
come back no issues, Display and Sound Digital Audio is set to HDMI audio: Stereo Uncompressed Optical Audio: Stereo Uncompressed, Privacy settings are set to Everybody for Communicate with voice and text. Am I missing something? The only thing I have not
done is restore to factory defaults. Not sure if I want to go that route.

Any thoughts? I am at the end of the line here. Thanks for your time.

    Zeph

    :)

  3. 3.5 mm Headset

It works with pretty much any headset. There are a couple of obscure ones that some people have had issue with, but 99.9% of headsets will work without issues.

Try checking to see if your controller has the latest update installed. Go to settings>devices and accessories and check to see if it is up to date. If not, attach a USB cable and run the update, making sure the headset adapter is plugged in.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just tried it and it states no update available for both controllers.

  6. I posted this in a separate response to someone's posts but thought I'd share my experiences as well.

This has started happening to me since last night when installing the firmware for my controller/headset and it's literally been nothing but a problem. Every time I restart my system it takes, as you said, minutes to move away from its "Black Screen" and
then it sits there unresponsive then all of a sudden it tries to make 1,000 actions you tried performing when I wasn't responding all at once. I can't play games, since they take ages to load. When it finally loads after 10 minutes, if I plug in my new headset,
the audio does the same thing and lags behind. It randomly asked me to setup my Kinec, so I unplugged it and restarted the system thinking that was the issue but it wasn't. I'm out of ideas other then taking a cement block to drop on it. Should do a system
restore first but...where's the fun in that.

Hmmm, I think we can probably narrow down the problem to either the controller or the headset adapter since you have tried several headsets and got the same result. So what I suggest to narrow that down is to try the headset adapter in another controller
    - if it works then possibly there is an issue with the controller or the port on it. Come to think of it, you might try unplugging it and plugging it again - possibly it worked its way loose and isn't making a connection completely.

    -

Another thing to try is if you have one of the chat headsets that came with the One, try using that - if it works, then your headset adapter is probably going bad.

    -

One other thing to try is the game/chat balance buttons on the headset adapter. If you haven't done this, do this first. The bottom one on the left side is the one that increases the voice chat volume in the headset, the top one increases the game volume.
They are balance switches, so maxing one turns the other down all the way. This is not explained well in the included instructions, I had to figure it out by trial and error. I hadn't mentioned it earlier as I figured you might have already done this, but
figured I better mention it just in case so we don't misdiagnose the problem.

    Again, thanks for the help.

As for the adapter, the XO One headset came with an adapter and that, unfortunately, did not work either. Same result. I have also tried the Xbox adapter in a second controller with no luck either.

I did not know that about the balance buttons, that is good to know and I will try it out. I am not sure if it will help since another headset with a different adapter did not work either, but at this point I am willing to try just about anything... except
    a factory restore.

That being said, is there a way to find what the optimal settings are for voice chat?

    Zeph

Edit: I forgot to mention as well that the generic headset that came with the Xbox flaked out a while ago and they no longer work.

  9. I've tried every controller, both with an adaptor plugged in, both with a headset plugged in, both with the "charge and play, plugged in and every variation with those three between the two controllers and even with nothing but the Kinect. Nothing works
and support on Twitter hasn't made an attempt in acknowledging the software issues and is persisting me to bring my console to a store to test it when it worked fine prior to the update so really must be the hardware... I'm doing a system restore and if that
    doesn't work then idk

I think this is a different issue Wicked. I don't have any of the same issues as you. I did my controller update after the issue occured. I have no other issues besides being able to hear party chat. Have you made your own post yet? Might get better results
    that way.
