Issues Updating Controller with Turtle Beach X07 Headset

I have been having this issue with the Turtle Beach X07 headset. I've had it for a few weeks now and been really enjoying it. But I have had to grow to deal with the behavior. Here are the things I am seeing.

• Every time I plugin the headset adapter into my controller and try to turn the XBOX One on by holding the Nexus button this never happens.
  • To resolve this I need to pull out the headset adapter and then hold the Nexus button again and the console will power on.
    
• When the console boots up and I plug in the headset adapter I get Controller Update Required. But I can hear audio in the headset just fine.
  • I have attempted to resolve this by updating the controller. But the controller update will never complete. It will fail every time. If I ignore the update the sound works but I get that crackling issue I have seen people mention.
    
• I can update the controller with no problems if I remove the headset adapter.
  • But as soon as I plug in the headset adapter I get a notification that I need to update my controller. If I attempt to update the update fails.
    

So I followed the steps at the support link. Update Xbox One Controller and
still no success. I have tried to use all the USB ports on the console and still the same behavior. The screen tells you to not move the controller when it's updating. I have verified no movement is happening.

This has been the same issue with the 1403 and the 1404 updates. I am just at a loss of what to do to resolve this issue. It's annoying behavior but I can work around it for the time being. I have been thinking that maybe the headset adapter is at fault
and been considering just going out and buying a new adapter. The headphones work great when I use them with my phone or Nintendo 3DS XL.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wireless means no wires. its not "wireless" if it still has a wire to my controller. by that logic the chat headset taht comes with the system is wireless

It rooted out bad controller. It might be addaptor of yours. You tried on a spared one by chances?

 

I second Dakrk's post - there were a number of adapters after the initial release (all from a narrow range of lot numbers) which were faulty, resulting in controller updates failing.

Let me ask, when you attempt to update the controller, have you made sure that the audio cable is plugged in between the adapter and your X07's? I ask because, the update is updating the controller and, in part, the adapter itself, and in order for the adapter
to be "turned on," the cable has to be connected (even if you get the update prompt before plugging the cable into the adapter.) I don't know for certain, but it's possible that could interfere with the adapter.

That said, if it still fails, I think it definitely points to an adapter problem.... :-(

 

Don't have a spare one at the moment. I just ordered a new one from Amazon should be here tomorrow. I will update with part numbers when I get a chance. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

 

Sadly I am having the exact same problem with 2 Xbox One controllers (both are Day1's) along with the stereo headset adapter.

It has the same behaviour with both. Shows updated until I plug my headset adapter in and it will show update required but it will only make it up to 70% (once usually lower) then re-attempt and show "There was a problem updating your controller".

I looked at my headset adapter and it shows part number :050614

Guess I need to contact MS about getting a part replacement.

 

Oh I forgot I use Astro A50's so its not a headphone problem

 

Tristan that's not the headphones something else is keeping you from installing the updates. When updating your controller the best way to do it is to not have anything attached but the USB, not batters no adapter and then connect everything upon completion.
No need to up date with every headset because your features sound or capabilities don't change

I can update no problem with out the stereo headset adapter. Once you plug the headset adapter in it states there's an update for your controller (this on both controllers). The update specifies to leave any headset attached for the update. The update then
fails after 2-3 attempts. Mine actually got to 91% last night.

Everything points to either a bad headset adapter or bad drivers/firmware from Microsoft

 

So I ordered a new Headset Adapter for my X07 and when I plugged it into the controller it asked to perform an update. This update worked without any problems.

So this tells me the headset adapter was having issues. Not really exactly sure what it was.

Audio would still pass via the bad headset adapter but my controller would always ask to update when I plugged it in. This would happen even if I updated without the adapter connected.

So a new one fixed it. I should probably contact Microsoft about replacing my old one. Or see if Gamestop would take it for a trade in and get probably $3 of my $25 I spent on the new adapter.

Glad you got the update to go through with the new one! I'd definitely check with Gamestop about a possible return, since it's clearly defective hardware! MS might do something about it, but I confess I'm not sure about their policies/procedures with peripherals
when the replacement has already been purchased.

 

It's pretty sad that not only did you have to pay $50 for a $25 dollar item but also your time and inconvenience too. Not to mention this should have been included with the product at launch....

So here I am stuck in the same boat. spend $25 bucks more so I can use a proper adapter or just deal with update messages. Seems like I'm having to invest too much time and money for a product that has yet to dazzle me.

Xbox Oneguide doesn't even work in Canada so all the TV pass through features of this product are yet another waste.

Got this console on launch because most of my friends are on Xbox Live (in large part because of my support) and finding the product to be very poor thus far. Another reason I got this was because of Titanfall which would have likely been a better purchase
on my gaming PC. Good game but getting put into games where you'll continue to lose the match due to lack of team balance is absurd.

The kinect really interested me but it hasn't come close to living up to the hype ms said it would. I was really excited about the fact that it has its own CPU therefore offloading the demand from the console. Sadly I guess my expectations were too high.
Tracking seems better then the Xbox but still has its issues. Hell under the same lighting the Kinect Rivals scanned my girlfriend in as being dark skinned (Fijian looking) and she's a lighter tone of skin then I am. Even after I changed lighting same result....

I really hope they can turn this console around. I know it takes upwards of a year for titles to become more relevant on new consoles which is no different then the original Xbox as well as Xbox One but this generation seems to be lacking (which includes
PS4).

I probably spent over 10K on the Xbox 360 having purchased 100's of games along with multiple consoles (Day one launch/ second Xbox which RRoD/Xbox Elite 120 GB Black/ Xbox Slim Reach Edition) and from what I can see I doubt I'll spend half that on this
new product.. Who know's...

I'm just really frustrated by the fact that we come on looking for help and the Xbox One Ambassador's who are volunteers are the only ones responding. It's seem more widely regarded that a large number of these adapters were faulty from the manufacturer
and while I might have the original receipt (haven't confirmed) that I have to go out of my way (30+ mins drive) to take care of MS's hardware.

Leaves an extremely stale taste in my mouth
