Issues setting up multiplayer on Ark Survival Ascended

I am having trouble setting up a non-dedicated server on Ark Survival Ascended.

My wife and I both own copies of the game bought via Microsoft (I am Xbox series x, she is PC). When I create a non-dedicated server, it does not appear in the server list. She also cannot access with an invite as it returns an error that the host connection timed out. We can play all other games absolutely fine.

I have reset both devices, re-installed the game on both, reset the router and UPNP is active. She has been able to join once, but crashed after a few minutes and then got the same error on trying to reconnect.

My NAT type is open. The call back system on Xbox support does not work and there is seemingly no option to live chat, email or call them.

Can anyone help?

I have heard port forwarding can help, but have never done that and cannot believe this would be something the ordinary user would be expected to do….

We actually managed to play tonight after the most recent update. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

I don’t think this is meant to be true, but it did seem to be a compatibility issue. I thought that was only if you had the game on a different platform (steam, Microsoft store/xbox, PS5). We both have the ‘Xbox’ version of the game. It also did occasionally work, but crashed shortly after. More often it didn’t allow the connection at all.

As far as I understand the non-dedicated servers are NOT crossplay yet. On PC you can play with other PC player and same for console. Not sure why, I wouldnt doubt if it had something to do with nitrado. Ive been having this same issue but me and the wife just decided to find a good official server and make it our home. We also will not be paying a subscription of over 200 bucks a year for a server. Hopefully more people raise a stink about this though and wildcard makes a few changes to this model.

They only did that to force people to pay for nitrado to play private crossplat

Non dedicated servers only work xbox to xbox or computer to computer or Playstation to Playstation

Yes, as long as the connection keeps working we just need to work on the stability of her game now. Turning off volumetric clouds/fog seems to have helped. It’s so much more stable on my Xbox, I’ve only had one crash since launch.
