Issues Connecting to Xbox Live? -- Check Here!

If you can’t connect to LIVE, or if you’re getting disconnected while playing, then you’ve come to the right place! Below are the first basic steps you’ll want to take to get on Xbox Live.

Is there something wrong with Live?

It's possible. You should check out the
Xbox Live Status page to see if there are any known issues that affect you or are related to your issue.

Run a network connection test

The first thing you’ll want to do is run an Xbox Live Connection test. First, access the dashboard – the main menu on the console. You can find your way back here from anywhere by pressing the Guide button (middle button on your controller) and selecting
“Xbox Home".

Once on the dashboard, navigate to the ‘Settings’ hub, select the ‘System’ tile, and then ‘Network Settings’. Select the appropriate network (wired or wireless), and then select ‘Test Xbox Live Connection'.

Record the results

Be sure to read everything that comes up after the test. Even if the test completes without an error, pressing “A” to access ‘More Info’ and "Y" for 'Status' may yield suggestions for improving your connection. When you do this, there will be an error message
across the top of the screen, similar to the sticky titles below.

Check the stickies

Check the other forum stickies for a post about the (X) or (!) and error message you received when running the Connection Test. These stickies have the top resolutions for their issue.

Your Nat still Strict/Moderate? Check here.

"Thanks for tagging that, I got a new router and it had Upnp and it still had Nat issues, so even if your router is Upnp compliant you can still have Nat issues if your Full Cone Nat isn't open. "

Very true, many routers support UPnP but not all to the same degree, I believe one of the tests for a router to be "Xbox Live Certified"
