Issues Adding Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible Games to my Xbox Live Account for use on Xbox One

    Hi All,

I've been having some serious issues trying to download any backwards compatible xbox 360 game to my account from the online store so that I can use it on my Xbox One. Let's go through the list of checks:

I am an Xbox Live Gold Subscriber.

I've tried to download the game in 6 browsers: Windows 10 Microsoft Edge, Windows 10 Google Chrome, Windows 10 Mozilla Firefox, Mac Yosemite Safari, Mac Yosemite Google Chrome, and Microsoft Xbox One Edge.

On every single desktop browser I have tried 'clearing my cookies,; logging out and back in, and trying to purchase another backwards compatible game that isn't the free Games with Gold Gears of War 2.

There is plenty of Hard Drive space on my Xbox One.

I have a great internet connection on all devices with a consistent 35 Mbps download speed.

I've tried downloading at various times throughout the day to miss peak time.

I've checked the my games and app section on my Xbox One to make sure it wasn't there, it's not.

I do not currently have access to an Xbox 360 to download the game on and per this link I don't need to use, although support tried to tell me I had to use a 360:

Games with Gold FAQ | Download Free Xbox Games

I've had 2 support chats with Microsoft. The first lasted 30 minutes and I had to go so I terminated it. The second lasted more than 40 minutes and I was mysteriously disconnected.

I've had 2 support calls with Microsoft. The first call, with a Daniel, was pretty good, I was having two issues, one being this download. The first issue was resolved, the second issue was not after 45 minutes and I had to run so I decided I would call
    back later.

Last night, I spent 1 hour and 2 minutes on the phone for a second call to Xbox Support and had been speaking with a supervisor when I was told that resolution would take a few minutes and was basically forced to let them call me back. They promised to
call back within 30 minutes to 1 hour. That was over 8 hours ago and I never received a call.

Now that we've ruled everything I can remember out, here is what is happening:

When I go to xbox.com/gameswithgold, sign in, scroll down to this months free games, and click on Download from Xbox Store under Gears of War 2, it takes me to the Gears of War 2 game page as it should. However, when I try to use
either the download to xbox 360 or the Buy Now 19.99 buttons, a white frame pops up with two green spinning circles, and stays there indefinitely. I know that that is a purchase confirmation screen, because when I try it for an Xbox One title
I have no issue. I've tried it with several other Backwards Compatible 360 games and have had no success. The same 'error' occurs every time. (No there is no error code, please don't ask again.) This feature was part of what sold me on coming back to Xbox
and Xbox live, and I was super excited to be able to download another Gears of War title because it is my favorite Xbox series so far and I haven't played in a few years since I was last active on my 360.

This has been very frustrating. Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Can anyone offer resolution?

    :)

  2. Unable to buy backwards compatible titles for / on Xbox One S.

Do you have a valid Credit/Debit card on the account? You need one on the account to make the purchase

You can not use xbox live gift card currency for backwards compatible games unless you are doing it from the xbox 360 console itself.

Is your account a child account? Child accounts can not purchase 360 backward compatible games.

  3. Moving From 360 to One- How do I do this?

Hi, if you own any xbox 360 game that is backward compatible (full list here
    www.xbox.com/.../backward-compatibility
), then you just log into xbox live on the xbox one with the same account you use on the xbox 360, and your games if bought digitally will show in your ready to install section, ready for you to install. If you have
a game on disk, then just insert the disk and install the game. If you have games that are not backwards compatible, then they might become compatible in the future, as they are adding new back compat games each month. Some Xbox 360 games will never be compatible,
those games may have an xbox one version, which if you want to play them, then you will have to purchase them again.

I hope I have answered some or all the question, happy gaming!

Sounds like you have no saved form of payment on the 360 side of things which is required for all 360 store items even free items.

The 360 store and the Xbox One store are two different infrastructures that as yet, don't speak to each other so what you are able to do in the Xbox One store does not carry over. Check that you have a form of payment attached to your 360 store account.

If that works Jayadub I would be stoked. How do I go about that though, my form of payment is tied through my Microsoft account, I can't seem to find a way to differentiate stores?

    Thank you!

As far as I know the only way currently to resolve this is to have access to a 360 and download at least one free item from the store. It is a digital rights issue and if you never had a 360 (though you say you did) or made purchases from an incorrect region,
which some did to circumvent store restrictions for certain games, then I am not sure how you can resolve the issue.

Have you checked your purchase history to see if you may have in fact "bought" the game?
    live.xbox.com/.../history

You will have to log in, of course.

There are a lot of instances all through the forums about people having these issues with GWG purchases. A search reveals some of the more common issues but not a lot of resolutions and I don't think they will go away until the 2 stores have been integrated
    with each other.

How can I get my Xbox 360 games I purchase online (my favorites) to XBOX ONE. That are not listed

    Hello,

Let me straighten this confusion up. Any Xbox 360 and original game that is on the
Xbox One backwards compatibility list will work just fine on an Xbox One - regardless of whether you own a
digital version on your Live account or the original game disc. You will need to be connected to Xbox Live to download the game.

Not all Xbox 360 games are yet backwards compatible, and some games may never become BC due to licensing issues, but, new games are being added all the time. Any digital game that you have on your account that is not currently BC will become available to download
for free from the Xbox One's 'Ready to Install list' when it becomes backwards compatible.

Can you make a guest account to play portal 2 local coop?

I think this is more a question of “how do I make a guest account on 360 backwards compatible games” since I have this issue with all my 360 games on xbox one so is there a way to add guest accounts on 360 games when playing on xbox one? because from my experience it’s not as easy as adding a guest account on xbox one

    Hi there,

The only way someone on Xbox One can play with someone on the Xbox 360 is if the Xbox One user plays one of the backwards compatible titles and both accounts have an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Here are the available games for backwards compatible:

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions!
