Issue with Windows 10 and GFWL

If you have Windows 10 there actually is no need for the Windows Live app anymore. That app is to play games on Xbox Live if you had any of the earlier versions, like Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.

This is 100% wrong.

The Games for Windows Live (GFWL) App is still required if you want to play games that require it. Shadowrun, the Batman games (if you're not playing the Steam port), etc.

Since you mentioned a Live ID, I suspect that it is GFWL that's the issue, but I could be wrong.

What game are you having trouble with?

Getting GFWL to work on Windows 10 take a bit of extra work. This can be fixed pretty easily by:

1. Removing GFWL, the Marketplace, etc. from your PC
2. Reboot
3. Download the latest version of GFWL from http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/Live/PC/DownloadClient
   
4. Install it
5. Reboot

Now with GFWL this doesn't have a 100% success rate. However you can try the exact same steps and it'll work the second or third time you do it. Pretty annoying, but at least you get to play your game.

So, I managed to get this up and running FINALLY. I followed the above instructions 1 more time (making 4), then when I saw "please wait", I gave up and did something else for a while. Somewhere during that 20-30 mins it began working and moved onto the
next stage. As far as I can tell, it's fine now. Thanks.

I've tried that 3 times now, including reboots. This 3rd time after I read it again here. This does not seem to help at all. I get to the same point and I'm hit with a "please wait" infinitely.

Although surprisingly, I mistyped my email at first this most recent time and it took me to a page where I input the CD key. However after that it told me my ID/password was wrong, obviously.

It does imply there's something strange going on with how GFWL is communicating with the server, though.

GFWL is no longer available for Windows 10, so going forward the Xbox (Beta) app will allow you to connect correctly.

Amber the Xbox app will NOT allow you to play GFWL games. You are still required to use that abomination GFWL to play your bloody games that you're STILL selling.
