    Issue with HDR clipping issue since the last few builds


    I'm trying to calibrate my Xbox Series X with the HDR calibration tool. However I'm having this weird issue where I have to increase the brightness well beyond what my TV can do on the white checker boards to clip. The black levels work perfectly.

    I am using HGIG so I don't understand why the whites keep alternating as that normally happens with dynamic tone mapping enabled. The checker boards will almost fade, but then the extra click need to clip makes the squares reappear and this repeats until I've increased beyond what any TV can display. I've checked that they are increasing by counting and then counting backwards to confirm that it is increasing relative to my increases.

    I have a LG Nano86 (Nano85 in US) using the RTings optimal settings. This wasn't an issue a month ago when I got the TV. I'm running the latest firmware and have factory reset the TV to no avail. I think it is a bug with the Xbox because if I set the calibration tool to the max nits of my TV and ignore the checker board the calibrated image looks correct. I've tried in PC mode for 4:4:4 support and console mode and the results are the same. I even factory reset my Xbox and didn't let it use my previous settings. This issue is on the current release build and the latest insider Beta build.

    I've noticed that in game HDR calibration tools work fine which makes me think it is the Xbox HDR tool at fault and not my setup. I've looked online everywhere and can't find a single thing about my specific issue.

    Has anybody else had this problem? Or happens to know a fix? It is triggering my OCD lol.

    Hey A Mighty Onion! Thanks for that clip! Most likely reporting the issue is going to be our best bet for resolution since you're an Insider member though you may want to try without HDR enabled to see if that might help as well. Thanks!

    I am truly sorry to know about your situation; However, since you have already gone through plenty of troubleshooting steps, it would be a good idea to perform an offline update on the console since you suspect that it's an issue with the new update.

    You can follow the steps in the link Xbox Support to perform the offline update, it usually helps a lot with the issues mentioned in your request.
