    Issue: Trying to Change my Xbox Gamertag


    I'm trying to change my gamertag to something different to bring it in line with all the other gaming profiles that I use. When trying to update it through the website or the Xbox, I keep receiving a notification stating "This gamertag isn't allowed. Try a different one." I've done different variations like either "TheSchatzy23," "The Schatzy23," and "Schatzy23." I'm not sure why I'm getting that message as it doesn't appear to be profane choice.     Follow the instructions in this link to change your gamertag. As long as the tag isn't in use you can claim it but it will cost 800 Microsoft Points regardless of whether you had it before or not.

    Sign in on to Xbox LIVE gamertag that you want to change.

    Go to Social and then select your gamertag.

    Select Change Gamertag.

    Select Enter New Gamertag.

    Enter your old previous gamertag
