Issue at Xbox One S startup

    Hi there,

The last couple of weeks, I've noticed an issue with my Xbox One S.

When starting the console, either by pressing the button on the console or on the controller, I hear the startup chime twice instead of once, and the console starts up showing me the "Troubleshooting menu".

It's the screen where you can chose to either continue, offline system update, reset the xbox or shutdown. If i chose continue it asks me to enter my account details, and it boots up like a new console does. It no longer has my account information (or any
other account information), network settings, ... everything is reset back to defaults.

I have found there is a workaround, if I unplug the xbox prior to starting it up (just unplugging the power), and then press the startup button while it's unplugged (to drain residual charge), then plug the power back in and start up (either by console or
controller button), it works as normal. It then loads the screen as normal, all account info is still there and all settings are still saved.

Any ideas on what may be causing this?

I've thought about resetting the console completely, but that would make me download a bunch of games again Issue at Xbox One S startup :)

I've been through the process of entering account information and setting it all up again twice, that didn't change anything.

    Cheers,

    Steven

    :)

The scenarios described are stuck on green Xbox startup animation, or no green startup animation where my issue is green startup animation transitioning to black screen.

    Hey Goudviske,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We suggest you try performing the Factory Reset, you
will be given the option to delete everything or keep your games and apps, select the latter. Let us know if you see the troubleshooting menu after doing this.

    Hi,

    Thank your for your suggestion,

I decided to move all installed games and apps to the external HD, when they were all moved I tried restarting it just in case, and for some reason the issue seems to be gone. I haven't done a full reset yet, I don't think there's any point to it right now,
but if ever the issue would come back, it will be the first thing I try.

    Thank you for your support.

    Hi,

    An update on this topic,

I've tried resetting the Xbox after the issue presented itself again, first by selecting the option to keep all games & data, it reset just fine, but didn't resolve the issue. After I tried doing a full reset, moving all games to an external drive, completely
resetting the Xbox and setting it up again. Unfortunately this didn't resolve the issue either. One day after resetting the issue came back.

Any other things that can be tried?

    Or things I can check?

    Thanks,

    Steven

Issue at Xbox One S startup

    Hey Steven,

I read over the thread and that is a very interesting issue. What it seems to be doing is the software is somehow forcing your Xbox to recreate the Xbox Troubleshooter which is what you need to do in the event that you can't access your settings or an Offline
System update is needed. However to bring up that screen, you need to manually press the BIND, EJECT, and POWER button simultaneously and it makes two chime noises before the Xbox boots up to that screen. So the software is re-creating that process and forcing
that screen to show up without any manual input during the startup.

The work around that you mentioned leads me to believe that potentially the power supply on the Xbox may be contributing to this as the Xbox seems to work after you power cycle it and reset the power unit. Most people have the console set to Instant-On power
mode and since this issue is during startup, that's another indicator that leads me to believe the power supply to your console is not efficient and it's forcing the software to pull up the incorrect thing and reset your Xbox. Also the fact that you've factory
reset your Xbox both ways and the issue comes back can also be pointed towards some hardware failure with the Xbox's power supply.

I would suggest to power cycle your Xbox and try another outlet, but if the issue persists then I would start considering a possible repair.

    Hi,

Thank you for your fast reply,

I'll try moving the console to another room, where it would be on another electrical circuit. And I'll test it over a couple of days. I'll get back on this after Issue at Xbox One S startup :)

    Cheers,

I've tested this yesterday at a friend's house and it had the same issue.

First time it booted fine, probably because it hadn't been connected to power for over an hour, but after shutting it down, waiting a couple of hours and trying again it reproduced the exact same issue.

Would there be anything else worth a try?

    Cheers,

    Steven

    Xbox one s startup issues

    Hi there Omnisune,

We appreciate you reaching out to us with this issue. This sounds like you might be having some power issues. We want to make sure that you have been plugging your console into a wall outlet and never into a surge protector or a power strip. These can damage
your console or blow out a fuse inside your console that would require a repair. If this sounds like it could be the case, be sure to
    start a repair. Thank you.
