Is Xbox Live on the One and 360 separate?

I have Xbox Live for my Xbox One, but when I go on my 360, it says I'm silver. Is this supposed to be the case, because I'd imagine that if you had Live on one, you'd have it on the other.

Let me answer your questions in the same order you posted them.

1. As far as all the data available at this point in time it would seem that achievements can be earned only once. That means that if you had for example Call of Duty Ghosts for Xbox 360 and purchased it for Xbox One the achievements you've unlocked on Xbox
360 will automatically be unlocked on the Xbox One version of the game. This would mean that your achievement list will be exactly the same on both consoles. This also means that you can't earn double achievements for the game on two platforms (Xbox 360/Xbox
One).

2. Not sure on this one, as far as challenges go, you may have to get to the same point in the game if you were in the middle of getting an achievement on the Xbox 360 to get that same one on the Xbox One. This is because save data does not transfer over, however,
your online multiplayer data will be transferred (ranks, etc) for at least Battlefield 4/Call of Duty Ghosts.

3. You can only send text messages to friends that have a Xbox 360 while you are on your Xbox One. You cannot talk to them using the party chat system.

4. Yes, you can use the same account on the Xbox One, and you can use the same account (still signed on if you want) on the Xbox 360. This was confirmed by a Microsoft employee a couple months back.

You're showing as silver here. Do you share your console with anyone else? The One has the ability to share gold. So if someone else on your console is sharing gold you will be able to use gold on the One, but you will be silver on the 360.

 

I share the Xbox One with my brother and dad. When my brother got it, he got the family pack thing or whatever for Xbox Live.

 

That would be why you're not gold on the 360 then, since the gold is tied to your brother's account.
