Is there a way in family settings to disable chat but keep voice?

nope, Microsoft only filter certain words or abbreviations but that word you pointed out f.u.k without the c is technically a name too in other countries and as the platform is global they can't block everything.

Haven't had chat issues if they use their mics. You are running into goofballs using the kinect for voice or not disabling voice chat for kinect in settings.

It's probably a fortnite issue, the only way to use game chat in fortnite is by going to voice chat in the pause menu and turning it on from there, if that doesn't work you can go to audio settings ingame and disable voice chat then re-enable it. This
has always worked for me but if it doesn't I would report the bug to fortnite.

Here’s what you need to check:

Click on the Settings button at the bottom right of the screen.

In the options that come up, choose Settings.

Click on the Audio tab.

Now, scroll down to the Communication section.

You will see the options Voice chat input device and Voice chat mode.

Check out Voice Chat Mode – it will show up as Disabled.

Thank you. I can confirm that the account is not set as a child's but I'll believe that it is just blocked or disabled voice chat. Are you sure that is all it is? That its not related to text chat?
