Is there a future for split screen online multiplayer?

Maybe. Another thread sparked my thoughts on this. If the matchmaking on #IDARB can pair players by how many are on a console, couldnt other games use this as well? I miss racing online with my brother in the room with me. Wouldnt it be nice if two people
playing splitscreen could be paired with others playing splitscreen? I know nothing about the technical aspects of online servers but might it be easier to have a full 16 player lobby in a game if servers only had to connect 8 consoles? Dont get me wrong i
still love my full screen multiplayer experiences and agree that someone playing on a full screen would have an advantage against those playing split, but split screen against split would be fair and something i would enjoy.

Utilization of the Split Screen Capabilities in Games

I know you can use split screen split horizontally for games like black ops 3 but there is hardly any room squished when using one TV. Is there any way to utilize the other HDMI port on the back of the system to split out to another TV and then use split
screen to split out to the 2nd screen? Is this a concept they are looking to maybe update in the near future instead of bringing each others consoles from place to place in order to play games?

There is an online cooperative mode if that's any good to you,but it's not split screen.

God yes. I remember being paired up with SS in COD all the time and them absolutely blowing chunks. I fully support this motion.

 

I remember online split-screen is was so fun at times. But I highly doubt that it will make a come back. Why? Because there was always someone that used it to boost, in some way. And that's why it's barley an option now.

One of the best games on the ONE, "Diablo: Ultimate Evil Edition" is also some of the best local couch coop you've ever played.

The Lego games handle it pretty well also.

 

I'm sorry aRagingCanadian but I dont know what you mean. What is boosting and how does one take advantge of this. I was thinking more along the lines of racing games but if your talking FPS stats I never paid much heed anyway cause I'm always at the bottom
of that barrel. Sorry for my ignorance

 

Loved playing through a campaign with a buddy, never really tried any split screen online...

@Jpep: Boosting is when one guy gets his buddy in the same game as him and kills him over and over to get their kill streak or challenges done. It wasn't just split screeners doing it but they were sometimes found boosting in games like CoD, which I played
a ton of back in the day so I know lol. It's a silly thing but people care about their stats so much apparently.

I would like to see split screening back in more games though. What you said about pairing split screeners together could happen but it's not as easy as you think. Every once in a while, I would get lobbies in Blops 2 where the whole enemy team was all split
screen and we had a pair of our own. It depends on the game really but I think you just want more games to integrate split screen. Consoles are slowly pushing away from that and to play now, you need a second system, which kinda sucks for people that enjoy
playing on the same screen. Close friends, dad and son, siblings, etc.

 

I'm currently living with a group of students who would greatly appreciate modern games embracing local multiplayer, we're currently loving [tag:idarb] but true splitscrean just isn't around anymore...

 

I can't wait for Earth Defence Force 3015 on the ONE.
