Is the Xbox One worth buying in 2018/2019?

I have an Xbox 360 and i'm waiting for it to completely die. Xbox live still supports the 360 but when it stops supporting it, i'd like to get an Xbox One. However, the XONE is 5 years old and i've heard stuff about stuff like PS5 and XTWO releasing in a
few years. If i get an XONE in 2018 or 2019, will it live up for a decent amount of time? I want to have a system in which i'll be able to play online with friends for a few more years. When i mean few more years tho, i'm not talking about 2 years. I'm talking
about another 5 years, because i've had my X360 since 2014 and unfortunately i didn't use it a lot so i don't want the same to happen to me with the XONE.

    Please respond, thanks for reading!

    :)

Is the Xbox One worth buying in 2018/2019?

I joined Xbox late 2010 with an Xbox 360 Slim console which is still working perfectly fine! I got Xbox One with Kinect when it launched November 2013. I currently have the Xbox One and Kinect in storage and last year got the Xbox One X console.

The Xbox One X is currently the most powerful hardware rawr power console on the market currently. It has faster RAM, a faster GPU, 4GB more GDDR5 memory than PS4 Pro, a faster processor than the PS4 Pro, not to mention a 4k Blu-ray disc player. So it makes
a great multimedia and social media device too. Video chat with friends on your console, exchange txt and voice messages, party and game chat.

Xbox One did kick off with a very rough start in November 2013, which is why PS4 has over 2x more people active on it than Xbox One currently has. When Xbox One launched, had no voice messaging, couldn't change the dash background, it launched with no Dolby
support only Uncompressed Stereo, no external HDD support, the UI performance was awful and super super slow because of the bad software. Thankfully Microsoft has upped their game and made the software much better. And it has improved greatly. However Xbox
One does have a dumbed down version of Windows 10 on it.

Technically it has 3 OS (1) Xbox OS (2) Windows kernel, explains the Windows 10 dumbed down version (3) hypervisor.

The issue is the software on it isn't as user friendly as Xbox 360 and PS4. There's too much bloat on Xbox One's software. The Activity Feed Section takes up a WHOLE dashboard section which shows not only your friends, but your friends friends, activity
and posts. Not to mention video capture is capped to 5 minutes and isn't anywhere as good as using your own Hauppauge or Elgato PVR which you can easily share to YouTube. I'm surprised there's no emphasis on creating and sharing clips and videos to YouTube,
only this Mix and Twitch.... no thanks.

However now is a good time to upgrade to Xbox One. May I strongly suggest the Xbox One X. The Xbox One S only runs on DDR3 and only 5GB DDR3 is allocated for gaming. Where as Xbox One X has over 100 Xbox titles that are Xbox One X Enhanced.

Sony still is slow on releasing official specs with PS5 yet alone even a release date. And I've made a lot of good friends on Xbox and don't want to create a new account and start from scratch with a PS4.

Microsoft also hasn't released any official news yet on an ETA of when they'll be turning off XBL support for Xbox 360. They know it has been a great social media and gaming console. It's the only 7th gen console where you can party chat and exchange voice
messages (PS3 doesn't do that, only has GAME CHAT, that's why I joined Xbox).

Get an Xbox One X console, you will notice the graphics difference between the X and Xbox One S version. I'm looking forward to The Crew 2 coming out next month, and that's an Xbox One X Enhanced game. Microsoft hasn't officially announced Xbox One X's successor.
It will be the best Xbox console for a while yet, cause it has really good hardware without forking out money for a high end custom desktop PC. It has the simplicity of a wireless controller, it makes a great social media device (console video chat, voice
text messaging, multiplayer gaming), it's for kids too, not for adults only. XBL has more servers than PSN even though not all of XBL's 300,000+servers are physical, and it's run by the worlds largest software company.

I don't really use my Xbox 360 Slim a lot either now. But it's still hooked up to my Sony 2017 model 4k 43' HDR KDX8000E HDTV along with my high end custom desktop PC and Xbox One X.

I suggest getting Xbox One X. If you don't want flash graphics and are on a strict budget, you can always choose the Xbox One S which is a cheaper option. Just remember Microsoft makes only 5GB DDR3 memory out of the 8GB on the S model available for gaming.
But makes 9GB of GDDR5 memory out of the 12GB available for gaming on Xbox One X. Xbox One X is a significant major hardware revision from the original and S models

You should make the most of your time instead of waiting months or years. Life is precious. Try something new...

Τhanks for your responses. So, do you think that the Xbox One will last a long time? I'm not interested at all in the expensive Xbox One X. I just want an Xbox One (even the original) so that i can play with friends because finding friends on the X360 is
pretty hard for me atm. I just want to be sure that when i get an Xbox One, i'll have PLENTY of years awaiting till it dies, because the X360 is basically semi-dead with the fewer amounts of people playing on it now. Everyone moved to the Xbox One.. Is the Xbox One worth buying in 2018/2019? :(

  7. Is the Xbox One worth buying? Yes it is, whichever version you decide to go for. At the minimum I admit I would go for the Xbox One S, which has the 4k media capabilities of its younger X sibling though not its gaming prowess.

However I feel the need to warn against paying the extra for the Xbox One X. Games aren't made for it, they are made for the first Xbox One and 'enhanced' for the X. This essentially means that so much of the X's power is wasted on graphical frippery, those
things that you really aren't going to notice when you are playing.

My suggestion would be to get the Xbox One S. It's future proof for media consumption and every game the X gets will also be available, though at 30fps and 1080p.

thanks for your response, as i've stated before i'm really not interested in the XONE X... I'd like to get the cheapest XONE possible. I've found a few used ones and i might buy one when the X360 completely dies. i will likely get the original one, even
though i'd love to have the Xbox One S...

  9. The price difference between an original Xbox One and the S version isn't big at this point in time on the used market. Honestly the only reason to go for the original console would be if you want to play Kinect titles, since the
S requires an adaptor to plug in a Kinect unit.

Bear in mind that Live for the 360 isn't going to be turned off for a good while yet, pretty much thanks to the backwards compatibility for 360 games on the One. So there really is no urgent need to jump to the Xbox One if you still have games you want to play
on the 360., and used versions of that older system are insanely cheap the the moment.

The 360 is a great DVD player, it is an awesome media streamer to put content from your PC to the TV (the way the 360 does it is better than the One.)

Save your money and stick with the 360 and then get an Xbox One S. You won't be disappointed.

I have to agree with this. I've kept my 360 and it still comes in handy a lot even though I use the One more.

Also as far as the original One versus S thing, keep in mind that the original One has been discontinued. The S would be a better bang for the buck too. I'd stay away from used consoles as you can run into banned consoles which are pretty much useless when
    it comes to the One.

thank both of you for your replies. well, i could test a used console to make sure that it's okay before i buy it of course though. i guess i'll stick to the 360 until it dies and then get a used xbox one.

however my huge problem with the 360 is that i cannot find friends, and i recently got HACKED on MW2 which absolutely sucks. i have no idea what to do with the 360 and i'm just so pissed, would you guys give me suggestions on how to find friends on the 360?
and could anyone maybe help me with the MW2 hack issue that i have? and one final question. im not interested in the xbox one x at the moment but, if i had one, would i be able to connect it to a PC monitor which is a 1080p monitor? and if so, would it be
worth it? anyway thanks for being here guys i really appreciate it.

Yes, it’s definitely worth it however I would never buy a used console especially if you want it to last a while. Even if you check it first I would still buy new. A used console will already have wear and tear.

I know you’re not interested in the X, and games are made for the base console and enhanced for the X, but in my opinion the enhanced versions of the games are far superior than the base game. At least in my opinion for the games I’ve played they are way
better so the extra cost was well worth it to me.

Your best bet is to get the S.

what would go wrong with a used console though? i got a used xbox 360 elite from 2009 and it still works quite fine. it only has low framerate in few games (for instance minecraft, but i think it might be the only game my x360 has issues with).

Well I think you’re lucky it lasted that long. Chances of a used console failing quicker than a new console are much higher. Obviously do what you think is best. It’s your money and it’s up to you. I was just giving my opinion.

Best of luck with your console when you get it. If you do buy used, ask the owner for the serial number and then go to register it.

  15. Of all the things that I would buy used, a modern gaming console is not one of them. Actually any electronic device isn't one of them. I agree with brandiesel in that you probably got lucky that a used console lasted that long. It's not hard to tell how
some items have been treated by their previous owners, but consoles (IMO) don't always follow that rule. You never know if it's been well cared for or has been left turned on, sitting in an enclosed, unventilated media case for days on end. In short, it could
last years, it could last days.

Maybe I'm off with this observation, but you seem to have put yourself in a bit of a... predicament. You want to buy a used console that will last a few more years.

"When i mean few more years tho, i'm not talking about 2 years. I'm talking about another 5 years"

The potential problem with that approach is what you're running into right now. Not so much that the hardware won't hold up, but the user base won't.

" I just want to be sure that when i get an Xbox One, i'll have PLENTY of years awaiting till it dies, because the X360 is basically semi-dead with the fewer amounts of people playing on it now. Everyone moved to the Xbox One..
Is the Xbox One worth buying in 2018/2019? :("

There's just no way to guarantee that. In fact, buying a console (new or used) several years into its life cycle and wanting to have plenty of years awaiting until it dies would've been nigh impossible before the Xbox One family
of consoles. Each generation wasn't compatible with its predecessor, leaving its respective user base and game supply to slowly dwindle until everyone eventually moved on to the newer version.

At least now you do have a better shot at getting what you want since MS have said that their plan is to have a 'family' of consoles that will be able to play together on XBL without the disadvantage of separating the previous
generations from the current ones. This, however, is new territory at least for gaming consoles, so who knows... it may work out as they intended, it may not.

If I were in your position, I'd probably do what a few others have already suggested and go with an Xbox One S
(There's no way I'd buy a used one though). I'm still playing on mine while I give the One X a year or so to get launch bugs and its OS worked out. And to see if MS will actually hold to their current 'cross generation/platform' concept
or if, for some unforeseen reason, they decide that generations worked better than families with consoles and there actually is an "XTWO" in the works.
