Is Subscription needed to play a downloaded game

Hi. I have just purchased the X Box S all digital. I was able to subscribe for 3 months for £1. If I pay to download a game , can I still play that game if I dont have a subscription ?

You will still need a Gold subscription to play Fortnite and if you want to play with others online with games like GTA you will also need the Gold subscription. Any game you get with gamepass when that subscription ends you will no longer have access
to those games unless you actually purchase them.

Game Pass and Gold both require active subs to use the games you download through them. The exception is the Xbox 360 games downloaded with Games with Gold are yours forever.

If you purchase a game, it's yours forever. You don't need a premium Xbox Live Gold subscription for that. That said, if you're talking about the Game Pass Ultimate offer, any game you download through Game Pass Ultimate will require that you maintain
that subscription.

Let's say you purchase Grand Theft Auto V on a sale. You bought the game, so you own it. Now, conversely, let's say you use Game Pass to download Gears 5. If you don't renew Game Pass, you would lose access to Gears 5, but would still be able to play Grand
Theft Auto V. However, if you don't maintain an Xbox Live Gold subscription, you cannot play online multiplayer components of GTA5 … but you can still play any offline modes in the game.

If you pay for a game, it is yours to play with or without game pass. If you want to play online in the game, you would need a gold aubscription at least.

Not if you are trying to play multiplayer online. You will always need the gold subscription for that.
