Is Plex worth it yet on XBox One?

Am newish to XBox One, had since Christmas. Started to look around for an alternative media player to the Media player App. Came across Plex, blurb looked good, saw the app was in the store, so installed the app and the server on my PC. Diligently renamed
my local films as per the Plex guide, fired up the Xbox and ... it wants me to pay for a plex pass. Not necessarily adverse to this if its worth it, but I have not used Plex at all anywhere else, so its an unknown to me. It also appears from what I have
found so far that the XBox One Plex doesn't support Music or Photo streaming yet either.

So after some opinions from people who have Plex.

I only want to stream local content from my PC, Videos, Photos and Music.

The "sharing" option might be of interest to share my photos with my family, 2 of whom have xbox ones and one has a 360.

So given my limited requirements, is a plex pass worth it?

Plex has the feature to lock out age related material to users (blog.plex.tv/.../introducing-plex-home) and the app is available on the 360 and Xbox One.

Might be worth checking Plex out as an option if emby isn't available.

 

Plex app connection problem

Hi,

I have a problem with the new Plex app.

Plex server is running on LAN in the same subnet than the xbox360.

I registered the Plex app with PIN in plex.tv website so everything should be good but when starting the Plex app again is says that the server cannot be contacted although the server appears online in the plex.tv website.

Plex DLNA service can be reached from xbox

On the other hand I can connect with other devices in my network to the plex server. So it seems really a problem with the xbox360 Plex app.

Anyone has the same problem ? Any ideas to fix ?

I downloaded it as an app about 3 years ago for about $5 or so and then as soon as I tried to use the impossibly user un-friendly UI, a window popped up saying I needed to pay for a monthly subscription (or plex pass) as well. Out of disgust I deleted
it and never looked back. I think this was before there was a requirement that apps on itunes were required to be up front about their costs.

 

I thought flex was going to be free for most features on X1 and the pass was needed for more advanced library features eg. Film bios and pictures.

 

From what I have read, the app is "Free" for now but needs a Plex pass to use it, and when they are ready to release it, the Plex app will NOT be free, but wont require a Plex pass for basic features. But who knows how and when that will happen, it seems
to have been in "beta" for a while now. The UI looks better than the built in XBox media player, but am unwilling to commit without some sort of specific xbox one feedback or a "free limited trial" or some such.
