Is Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition going to be on sale or what?

Is Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition going to be on sale or what? Because I was looking on my Xbox One just now and sale that it is listed as $4.99 but when I click on the game it shows up as being $19.99 instead is this just a mistake or what?

I think the $4.99 is the cost to upgrade to the definitive edition but you have to own the base game first.

 

Yeah, I doubt it will be $4.99 anytime soon, I bought the definitive edition during the big winter(?) sale for $18 down from $26. Still haven't played it yet, haha. I need these kind of games to be on a mobile device so I can chip away at it during those
boring times on the go!

 

$19.99 isn't really a bad price either for the game. It's really good. But yea the $4.99 price is for the upgrade if you already had the regular edition.

 

First, I'm trying to remember if this was a GwG before and if I have it from there? Second, if it was GwG and someone has the DL of the GwG (rental) can that same person still have the option to buy it at $4.99?

Finally, something I'm finding really hard to swallow but how does a Game in the current Platform of it's Release have a "Definitive Edition"? What was the original release a half-baked retail or some pseudo beta for sale? Shouldn't the so called "Definitive
Edition" of a Game in current Platform be just the Game?

The way I'm seeing this from the Developers/ Publishers is either, "wait we messed up and can't patch" or "hahaha Definitive Edition equals more money for the Game it was going to be twice!".

So if someone has a reasonable explanation of how is a "Definitive Edition" getting released on the current Platform justified from not just being the Game it should have been from day one or simply patched? Are they really selling an Update Patch for $4.99?

 

This game wasn't a DwG game. Ori is the best platformer I have played this gen or ever.....by far. The controls are so tight. The graphics are awaesome. The music is great and the leveling up system is pretty cool not to mention the cool save game feature.
It also has a story.

The game was released in March 2015 for Xbox One. The Definitive Edition was released March 2016. The standard release alone was an incredible experience and I didn't feel like any part of the game was left out. We didn't even know there would eventually
be an expansion. Below is what the Definitive edition has that the original doesn't. there is a lot to make it worthwhile. Keep in mind that if you only played the base game you would be in for a treat.

The Definitive Edition features all the same areas and story as the original Ori and the Blind Forest but with some unique additions. The largest of these are a pair of brand new areas called the Black
Root Burrows and the Lost Grove. Designed to be an expansion of the game's lore, the Burrows prominently focus on the past of Naru. Executive Producer Mark Coates states that players will:

"...discover her roots, where she came from, and you learn a bit more about her as a character and why maybe she is compelled to do some of the things that she does later on in the game. It’s all interwoven
with the already-existing story.”

The Black Root Burrows and Lost Grove allow Ori to gain new abilities. One of them is Dash, an ability that lets Ori gain a quick burst of speed in the direction they are facing with a tap of RB. This
can later be upgraded in the Ability Tree to be used in the air and also as an attack. Those who venture further in will also gain Light Burst, a skill that is described as essentially a grenade. Triggered by pressing LB, tapping the button will cause Ori
to throw grenades at the nearest enemies whilst holding it down will allow them to aim the shot. Both the Black Root Burrows and Lost Grove will be accessible early on the game's story so that players can then utilize these new skills in the rest of the game.

The Definitive Edition also comes with new multiple difficulty levels. In additional to the "Normal" difficulty of the original game, players wanting to focus on the story and world can now use an "Easy"
setting to tone down the challenge of the some of the game's more difficult sections. On the other hand, those wanting more of a challenge can use the new "Hard" mode and self-explanatory "One-Life" mode. The "One-Life" mode will feature an online leaderboard
ranking that uses the end game statistics to compare players against each other.

To make backtracking to previous areas easier in comparison to the original Ori and the Blind Forest, the Definitive Edition now has a Fast Travel system. Players can now warp instantly between
any of the Spirit Wells that they have saved at, allowing for easily transportation between areas to find missed items and secrets. An expanded Theater Mode will also be included. Not only will players be able to view all of the cutscenes, but also see early
concept material from the game, trailers, and other bonuses from early in the game's development.

Thank you brandiesel1, I'll eat my words and the above sounds very much more like proper DLC rather than "an Update Patch". Might be just me but maybe the Publishers, Microsoft or whoever should be careful using a Title like "Definitive
Edition" when it is not the case from the Content being added.

I heard it was a great but I am not fond of the "puzzle" type Platformer (ie Limbo, Braid and such), it will be a pass in my book. Now that I'm thinking about the GwG "puzzle" was the one in the ice (maybe?). I DL'd one of them and haven't touched it.

 

^ There have been a few puzzle platformers on GwG Max and the Curse of Brotherhood and Limbo are a couple, I don't get on with them either which is a shame as I've only heard good things about Ori.

 

Ori is great in my opinion, but I still like side-scrollers where a lot of people have kind of grown out of them.

 

Ori is right up there with the best games ive played. Its brilliant in my opinion

 

Not to mention the music. There's not a lot of soundtracks from video games that I'd listen to on their own. Ori is one of those special ones I could listen to all day.

Maybe calling the dlc the "definitive edition" was a little much but I think they were calling it that for effect and/or it's trendy to call things that these days. But it really is a proper DLC and well worth the $5 upgrade.
