Is my Xbox one X faulty??

Ok i have had it for since xmas now. There are 2 things that are making me think its faulty.

    1) Sometimes when its on Instant on, il press the power button once to turn it on, however after a second or two it instantly shuts itself down but FULLY not even quick start up mode, it fully shuts down.

    2) My rear USB ports seem to always supply power. Using my external hard drive (wall powered) if i turn the xbox off normally then eventually the hard drive does turn off. However if i hold the power button to fully shut it down the harddrive does not power
off, which then results in mt xbox getting turned back on by itself. If i use the FRONT usb port then i can fully shut it down and it stays off along with my hard drive.

    :)

  2. Xbox one switch off or freezing after changing game/app (Possible fixes for external hard drive side of this error)

Just not been an issue with my original Xbox one, Xbox one S or Xbox one X. My S is in alpha and X is in alpha SA.

  3. Xbox One X Won't Connect to Xbox Live

    Hello,

My Xbox One X never is able to connect to Xbox Live when I first turn it on. I never had this issue with my Xbox One. I always have to Reset my Alternate Mac Address and usually Hard Reset my Xbox One X. I have ran all the connection tests on my Xbox
One X as well as reset my Internet Connection. But no success. I have had this issue since I got my Xbox One X.

How does the console work when you don't have the external drive plugged in?

I dont think overheating is the issue because as soon as its shut down i power it on again with no problems and play. It has never shut down mid game or video. Its only done it from start up

    Hello

1: Sounds like a software bug have you tried a Factor Reset and Keep Games and Apps? Reset Xbox One Console to Factory Defaults

2: Yes the USB ports always supply a power source, so if your External Hard Drive is powered by just the USB 3.0 Cable the light will be always on. This is for Instant On & Energy Saver Mode.

See i was thinking the hard drive could be the problem because i was using a different one before this that was also wall powered and had 0 issues.

I currently have the 8TB Xbox Game Hub but thinking if switching to the 4TB USB powered Game Hub instead.

See now i dont know what to do. Send this Wall powered 8TB xbox game drive back and get the 4TB USB powered one and try it.

Would i notice a significant decrease in loading times going from a 5400rpm from a 7200rpm with a barracuda drive?

  10. Hi Dan,

Thanks for reaching out to us and keeping up updated regarding your Console shutting off. So, you mentioned it does not shut down during gameplay, but it does with the drive plugged in during the startup with instant on?

Please try changing the console to

    Energy-Saving Mode
before trying to change out the Game Hub.
    To change this setting:

    1. Press the
Xbox button to open the guide (Don't hold the Xbox Button on the controller)
    2. Select
      System >
      Settings
    3. Select
      Power & startup
      >Power mode & startup.
    4. Select
      Power mode
      to change the setting to
      Energy-Saving
    5. Then restart the console by pressing the
      Xbox Button
      again. Go to
      System
      and select
      Restart Console
      (Not Settings).

try using the console as usual with energy saving mode and let us know how it goes. Also, if possible, try without the drive plugged in and let us know if there are issues during startup.

    Thank you

Its hars to determine if its the harddrive as it doesnt always do it. I will try turning the energy saving mode on to see if that stops the xboz being turned back on by the hard drive.

Nope. If i hold the button to shut it down the only way to keep it off is to unplug the hard drive. Its 100% the hard drive causing this issue. But the one i had before which was also wall powered did not cause this issue.

Anyone here use a hard drive plugged into the back usb ports usb or wall powered?

I just turned my xbox on while in instant on mode and it never shut down. So it doesnt seem to do it all the time.

Is my Xbox one X faulty??

Hey bud. What I would do is probably try to exchange the drive. If your last drive operated without this issue, your right it more than likely is the drive. You also might want to maybe try another cord for the drive to see if it might be faulty.

    Happy gaming!

I really need a xbox one x owners answer.

My Xbox one X has had no issue, I think yours is the faulty one, if you have a warranty for the X I suggest to replace it with a new one. Otherwise you are just going to hate it forever.
