Is my Xbox One X damaged? Insufficient Ventilation warning message.

I just bought the Xbox One X along with the game Forza Horizon 4, my Xbox was inside an enclosed book case and got no ventilation, I didn't know this was a bad thing to do, until i started hearing the fan get loud and it never stopped spinning, then i
started smelling a burning smell from the Xbox, I played for about an hour while that burning smell was still present, I thought it was normal and that it was just the fan at first, until the Xbox shut off during gameplay and displayed the error message of
"Insufficient Ventilation". After that message I knew that I had to put the Xbox in a place where it had plenty of ventilation, so I put it on top of the book case where there is plenty of ventilation, I started up Forza Horizon 4 and played, I never heard
the fan or smelled that burning sensation ever since, so I know now that the xbox is getting plenty of ventilation. Now my question is, is my Xbox damaged at all now? even though I have it ventilated now and the system shut itself down automatically to prevent
overheating? Is my console's lifespan shortened? Has anything inside the system melted? or am i good to go?

I live in Brazil and bought an Xbox One recently. I could see that in their normal functioning in a cool place the console reaches very high temperatures. I worry about my investivemento, and thought of building a more efficient ventilation system for him,
where I would put top grill island's two coolers 120 mm (responsible for removing the hot air of the island) and three coolers of 80 mm in the large side console (responsible for directing cool air into the console) and I wonder if this ventilation system
is indeed effective or may cause any harm to the console.

By the coolers also put several dust filters.

 

Hi, This can sometimes be from something happening internally, You may have to send it in for repairs using this link - Create Xbox Console or Kinect Service Order | Xbox Repair

Whatever you do. Don't open the Xbox yourself as that will void the warranty.

 

do this Let's try to power cycle your console. Please hold down the power button on the front of the console for approximately 15 seconds until the power light shuts off. Wait about 60 seconds, then power it back on. Be sure you see the green "XBOX ONE"
animation loading screen when you power it back up. if before doing this you're system show erratic behavior Warranty

Sorry to hear you have run into this problem. The Xbox One consoles definitely do need some room with good ventilation so this does not happen. Of course as the Xbox One X is a more powerful machine it will generate more heat while being used.

If you have already put it out in a better ventilated area and you are still running into this problem go ahead and read through the "Ventilation for the Xbox
One console" support article for more information. as stated if the console is still shutting down then it will more than likely have to be serviced. You can always go through the

Device Support page to register and set up the repair.

You maybe have it in a place where it dont get proper air flow or it is very dusty on the inside...

 

Thank you very much for your help! OK so please do not talk this the wrong way, but you did not entirely answer my question, the information you gave me was very helpful indeed but my real question was, "Is my Xbox One X damaged at all? Is it's lifespan
shortened because of it overheating and displaying that warning message? And what about that burning smell it made when it was getting too hot, does that smell mean it melted something in the console and that it's permanently burnt/melted? or is that just
the smell it makes when it's getting too hot? The console did shut down automatically so that does mean it saved the system from being destroyed correct?" the console runs perfectly now and it is in a very well ventilated area, i haven't heard the fan spin
loud, I haven't smelt any burning sensation ever since I put it in a ventilated spot. So although it runs perfectly fine now, has it been damaged at all from the overheating that caused it to shutdown and display that warning message?

I do apologize for that!

Now of course With the console overheating it is normal to get a hint of burning smell. This should not have harmed the console. Of course Now that it is in a well ventilated area. So long as it remains this way the console should not run into any long term
issues.
