Is my Xbox One temperature normal?

I have a new Xbox One (1 week old now), and I'm very worried about the temperature it's reaching.

After only 30 minutes of playing Forza 5 or Titanfall, the top ventilation grid is at 50ºC (122ºF). I'm measuring it by placing a tiny thermometer on the top grid, which means that the actual temperature may be a little higher. It even smells
a bit like burnt plastic. Well, not exactly burnt, but... it reminds me of a hair drier, when the plastic gets hot.

The console is placed horizontally in a well ventilated spot: nothing on the top, nothing on the sides; there is a wall on the rear side, but it has a 6 cm (2.4 inches) margin.

Also, I've read that if the Xbox One overheats, it will automatically shutdown itself to prevent damage to the system. That has not happened to me. So, my guess is that the temperature, despite being high, is not too high. In fact, the only part
of the console getting hot is the top ventilation grid, the rest of it is warm, even cold... which seems to be normal, too.

Anyway, I'm very worried. Is it normal? Is it too hot? Should I return it to the store?

    :)

Xbox One hot even when off, recording temp above fan at 100 F.

I wanted to know if the temperature my xbox is at is normal. The console is turned off and plugged in and Xbox and the power brick are well ventilated. The power brick does not seem unusually hot. The Xbox is on the mode where you can install updates while
    it's off and start fast.

I used a temperature probe my step-father uses on air conditioning units to test their output temperature and placed it in the middle of the vented area on the top of the Xbox, where it is hottest. The average temperature for the last hour and a half has
been about 99 degrees F. I have been recording the temperature every 10-15 minutes and the hottest it hot was 107.6 while the fan kicked in briefly.

I have only been recording the temperature today, but my xbox running hot while off is constant. Is this normal?

Current PC graphics cards are designed for high temperatures. My PC's graphics card can reach 75c - and this temperature, while a little high, is well within its design tolerance. Xbox One X is no different.

There are fans in the console to help keep it cool. This hot air is blown out through the vents where your thermometer is consistantly reading the temperature. Odds are that not only is the thermometer picking up the heat from the console but the ambient
temperature from the room as well and that would be why you're getting the higher readings.

However, if you are truly worried about the console you should look into returning it to the store for a replacement.

Air blown out of the console: 50ºC / 122ºF.

    Room temperature: 31.5ºC / 88.7ºF.

Room outside the house: 38.6ºC / 101.5ºF (it's summer, and it's one of the hottest regions in Europe).

Sure, the thermometer reading is affected by the room temperature, too. But given that the room is so much cooler than the console, that only makes the readings *lower* than they should be, not higher...

As CPUs and GPUs on PCs produce temperatures up to 70°C then a temperature of 50°C directly above the heat sink and the fan may be quite normal, especially when the environment temperature is also up to 30°C.

    Xbox One S Normal Temperature?

The Xbox 1S is like 40% smaller than the original Xbox 1, and it has a power brick crammed inside it too. The original Xbox 1 has better ventilation because it has a lot more, or shall I say like 40% more "airflow" space. But with your experience, that's
completely fine. The Xbox 1 and Xbox 1S has low-end gaming hardware. It's not like it has an i7-6700k and GTX 1070 which generates a lot more heat, but way better graphics and processing. It's when you get above 50'C when you may start to get a bit concerned.
My GTX 1070 on my custom desktop PC can tolerate up to 94 degrees Celsius, before it starts to throttle. My desktop has several fans but only averages 40-61'C at worse, during intense high end gaming sessions. The hardware can definetly cope with that but
it really shouldn't get above 66 degrees Celsius. However, the cooler the hardware is, the longer it will last. My EVGA GTX 1070 SC has I think a 5 year manufacturer warranty or something.

    Xbox One S Normal Temperature?

Sounds about right. You will get a bit of warm air coming out when your playing a game as the console is working a bit harder.

Where you place your console can affect that.Playing a digital copy of a game will generate a little less heat than playing a disc copy of a game but from what you've said it sounds perfectly normal.
its in a complete open envirement and yes i was playing disk so the warm air while playing is normal? Ok thats good heb but i hear people say that theres is still cool even when playing..

And why does disk game give more Heat?

I thought the disk doesnt spin only when it does its check up after that it plays from HDD?
