Is My Xbox One A Paperweight

Hello all

So I am starting to believe my OG XBox one has croaked because of all the issues it is having. I am close to throwing the towel in on it but figured let me see if the forum can help. Please bare with me on this long post

The issue started with Forza Horizon 4. I was 50% into the street scene marathon race when the “race world” was not loading. It became a translucent void that would pause the race in a frozen state. You could hit rewind to go back x amount of seconds before the void but the game just wouldn’t load afterwards. After waiting to see if the game state would stabilize the Xbox eventually froze up and crashed.

After a restart Forza would not load and would constantly lock up the Xbox

Now I went through everything I could on this. From deleting to reinstalling the game, which during the install locked the Xbox up.

I ended up having to delete what little of the game was reinstalled just to log back into the Xbox under my account to then perform a factory reset with games and profiles saved.

After doing that it seemed like everything was working and thought maybe I found a massive glitch in Forza that needed an update before ever trying to play again but I was very wrong in this thinking. Now it seems like any game that requires some sort of access to the cloud will not load. The game, no matter the title, will either lock up while loading or will get to the point of requiring me to pick my profile in the game before booting up halfway to loading and locking up.

After trying the factory reset, hard cycle restarts, and uninstalling and reinstalling games nothing seems to work.

Last night I finally did a full factory reset wipe of everything and decided that if the Xbox is on its last leg then maybe we will take it easy and try one game at a time. First one up was Back4Blood. Game was reinstalled, resynced to my account and got to the loading screen. This game usually takes a moment to load but after waiting 10 minutes and nothing happened I was like ok this won’t work. Went to exit the game the couple of times I tried it from the Home Screen and it would either lock up or if I was able to exit, the OS would look like it was having a spasm as of this was Windows 95 on dial up. I have pretty much gone back to a blank slate and the only items that seem to work now is tv streaming apps

So what do you guys think?

Note internet is running a solid 900mbps with an open NAT. There are no issues with our router. My girlfriend has her Xbox hooked into WiFi in the loft and has no issues gaming.

Yes it is the original one from 2013. It’s been a work horse but wanted to make sure there wasn’t something I missed in trying to get the old girl running. The hard drive seems to have been running worst since having to do the wipe.

It’s okay I have a Series S coming in next week since it was available and will serve its purpose for how I game so we will just use the OG now from the streaming apps

It's best not to cover your console with a towel you are blocking the vents....

It was a figure of speech. To 'throw in the towl' means to give up.

As to the issue at hand, if you've already tried the hard reset then it sounds to me like the hard drive is on the way out.

The internal drive isn't user replaceable. Have you tried running your games from external storage?

If the games are already running on an external then change the drive over. Otherwise you'll need a repair/replacement console.

If your Xbox One is the original model (the big black one from 2013) Microsoft no longer services these machines.

This isn’t helpful. I bought multiple HID joysticks and they don’t work with the XAC on the Xbox. The PDP one handed worker for me, but mine broke. No my xbox is a paperweight $20 part, because you still advertise, but don’t sell my Xbox Is a paperweight. Xbox should care about its gamers enough to make sure the peripherals needed to make their tech work, doesn’t vanish without another option. Microsoft failed a billion people with this one.
