Is my XBOX Controller Broken?

Hey everyone,

so I dropped my controller (I know, smooth move.) yesterday, and it worked fine for most of today until I placed it down rather harshly, but not enough that it should BREAK. I guess at that point the controller said "I'M FED UP WITH YOU" because all the
buttons still work but not well when I'm in game. For example, I play NBA 2K20. When I went to shoot, I kept getting very late releases. Strange, so I turned the shot meter on to see what was going on. Even when I released the X button, the meter kept going.
NO the button was not sticking, it went down and up normally, but when the button went up the shooting motion didn't stop. So essentially the controller thinks the button is sticking when it's not. I can't test that theory with other buttons because there
isn't a time when I need to hold and release on point. I thought, "Okay, maybe this is a glitch on NBA 2K20's end so I'll go into Xbox Accessories and test that." Nope. It was right on point with what I was pressing down to the millisecond, whereas NBA 2K20
was a few WHOLE seconds off (which is big in a game like that.) I would test this in other games but I don't have other ones but strategy games where it seems to work fine. I tried with another controller in 2K and it worked just fine, the releases were Irish
Spring Green. I have a competition game on Friday and I'm in the Elite Eight of a March Madness style 2K tournament and I need to know ASAP if I need to order another controller or if this is fixable. 73 bucks is a big investment for me too, so that would
be difficult. Thanks for your time!

I agree, my xbox 360 controller lasted the whole 10 years I had it. My xbox one controllers have had broken triggers, bumpers, controller drift, you name it.

I dunno why people are so anti-consumer about this.

I've been gaming since the 1970s. I've owned one or more consoles in every generation. In all of that time as a gamer, I've had 8 broken controllers: -

An Xbox 360 controller that developed minor stick drift after many years as being my main controller for both the 360 and PC gaming.

7 broken Xbox One controllers - 4 regular controllers and 3 Elites. 2 of those controllers were broken out of the box, including my Day One controller. Even with the Xbox One controllers that "worked", I've had regular issues with them disconnecting where
the sound starts to break up in my headset, the controller disconnects then reconnects, but then it says I have no mic and I have to manually turn the controller off and back on to get the mic working again. This has happened with several original Xbox Ones
and all of the controllers I've owned and it's only when I switched to an Xbox One X that it stopped happening - or at least, it hasn't happened yet.

So in all of those years of gaming, all 8 broken controllers I've had have been made by Microsoft, but 7 of them have been Xbox One controllers. Don't try and tell me it's something I'm doing unless "using a controller to play a game" somehow counts as misuse
now. Saying "my 360 controller has never broken" isn't even relevant to the OP's post, as he's talking about Xbox One controllers.

Thanks for the tips. I did find that site on my own and none of the suggestions have helped.

Unfortunately, it just isn't acknowledged as being connected by anything other than the device manager. I do not receive any error messages.

I guess the controller is just broken? I'm just not sure what would be broken about it.

Other Xbox controllers connect to my PC fine. This controller connects to the Xbox fine. It also connects to this PC fine via Bluetooth.

I can't figure out what would be broken that prevents specifically this controller from connecting to my PC via USB and the Xbox Wireless adapter but does allow it to connect to the Xbox. And also allows other Xbox controllers to connect to the PC just fine.

There was just an update for my xbox controller and yet its still broken, has it improved for you at all?

Exactly, the X button is only an issue when I play 2k20, I even tried 2k19(because it uses the same button mechanic) and it worked perfectly fine, and in other games such as Rainbow 6 or Moder wafare its fine, im just confused about it
