Is My Headset Adapter or Controller Broken?

So as of today I tried to use my headset to chat with other players and watch youtube. But there is a slight problem, there is no sound coming from my headset. Nothing at all.

I tried testing my XO FOUR in my phone and they worked just fine, but doesn't seem to wanna work on my controller.

The headset adapter LED mute button will light if pressed but other then that there is no beeping from turn the volume up or down. Nothing.

I'm beginning to worry if it's one or the other.

I'm honestly hoping it's just the adapter that has gone out since they are far more.cheaper then a new controller.

I have had that adapter ever since I got my xbox which was about 2 years ago so it could just be it's old and finally gave up.

Then again, my controller is only about a year old (last one I had to toss away cause the joysticks finally wore down to the point we're they stopped working).

But honestly I'll have to wait till Monday before I can actually buy one or the other to see which was the problem

But right now I'm at my buddies waiting for him to get here so I can test it out on his. Then I'll have my.answer on what is wrong.

But I have updated both my console and controller and it still gives me the same problem.

Even when I plug the really old default one you got when you bought the xbox one it doesn't light up like the one one does.

Any suggestions or quick fixes I can do before I have to fork over some cash to fix this annoying problem?

    :)

    Mic/controller problem

    Hey there minimed78.

Sorry to hear about the headset troubles! Does your son have the chatpad adapter in between the headset and controller or is he plugging directly into the controller? If there's an adapter in between in may be worth trying the headset with a controller that
doesn't need the adapter, or test a different adapter.

Controller Update for Stereo Headset Adapter Fails

It sounds like the controller update also updates the headset adapter as the instructions state plug in headset/adapter before updating . So if you have updated the controller with out the headset adapter plugged in its possible that the console will think
the controller is updated but not recognize that the adapter isnt and then fail or say that the controller is upto date . The only way around this maybe to get a new controller or a controller that hasnt been updated and try the update again . Or try the
headset adapter in a friends controller that has had the update done and see if it works

Go to the left (on the Xbox One menu) (when a sidebar shows up) and scroll to the bottom where it says "Settings".

There should be a headset volume in there if you are connecting the headset to the controller and make sure the volume is on 100% (there won't be an actual percentage but a bar).

Thanks for the reply guys. But the volume was maxed.

Turns out my headset adapter port was used so much that it actually slipped out of place and wasn't connecting when I plugged it is.

Just bought me a new controller. Lol

    Stereo Adapter

I think you are wrong, with the headset adapter the jack of the headset is plugged into the adapter which use the expansion port on the controller to transmit the audio. The broken jack port on the controller will not be used anymore.

No I only have one controller but the headset works on other devices. Is there any way i can fix my controller if it is broken?
The cheapest option is to get the headset adapter for the controller as chances are you are outside the warranty period. If you have a friend who has a controller, try the headset on that first, to ensure it works.

I think the headset jack is broken on my elite controller so I decided to use one of those black adapters.... But it won't allow me to change audio volume.
