    Is My Hard Drive Bad?


    I have an external WD Easystore 8TB. It's just about two years old I'm not sure if it's the wrong type of hard drive for the Xbox. It was awesome when I got it. Now I can't figure out what's going on with it. I have like a gazillion games I've downloaded on it, but when I go to my menu, all the games except the ones on the internal xbox storage are gone!
    Of course, so is the hard drive itself.. it's not appearing under storage. I've tried restarting, formatting, etc..
    Sometimes it will show up, most of the time though, it doesn't show up at all!
    Unplugging it entirely from the xbox and power supply, then plugging it back in to both, etc.

    I've changed the usb cable
    So did it go bad? Or did I buy the wrong drive?

    If both Xbox and Windows cannot detect it, it is indeed faulty. I'm sorry.

    If it's on warranty, Western Digital should cover a new one.

    Hey Lucas. I have the original xbox one. 1540.
    I did try to check the hd on my Windows 10 pc. Apparently windows can't detect it. I filled a warranty request with Western Digital.

    The Western Digital Easystore is compatible with Xbox. It should be working just fine. What exact console do you have?

    Xbox Series S/X optimized games cannot be run from External HDs, only on the internal drive and SSD expansion cards, but other games are able to run on external HDs just fine.

    Do you have a computer to test it? Does it show on the computer?

    The guy above be is right, and you can actually do this on the website - I remember from when I got my second Xbox after my first one bricked. There's a section in your "My Xbox" that will allow you to send certain downloads to your current box. The only
    catch is for some of the arcade games you'll need to be signed into Xbox Live to use them. Other than that you're money!
