Is Minecraft and Fortnite supposed to be eating up 100% of my i5-11400f and still run on 50...

I'm pretty sure i just started having problems with my CPU performance a few weeks ago. Whenever i started up more CPU intensive games like Fortnite or Minecraft, my FPS just tops out at roughly 30-50 fps on games that should've been running upwards of 300+.

System specs are; i5-11400f, RX 6750 XT, 32gb 3200mhz TEAMGROUP RAM, 1TB Samsung 960 with a 700 Watt Thermaltake PSU.

I put this system together originally as a 1080p gaming machine that had a GTX 1660 Ti, which i upgraded to an RX 6750 XT later on. I got myself a 1440p 144hz monitor to back up the GPU change. I made sure to download and perform a driver clean on DDU to remove Nvidia's drivers to keep them from working against AMD's. Does anyone have any ideas about how to get my 11400f to stop acting like a 6770?

    :)

Is Minecraft and Fortnite supposed to be eating up 100% of my i5-11400f and still run on 50 fps?

    Hi MasonYZ,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Based on your system specs, you should be able to run Minecraft and Fortnite at much higher FPS than 30-50, especially at 1080p resolution. Your CPU and GPU are both capable of delivering smooth gaming performance, as shown by various benchmarks.

There are several possible causes for your low FPS problem, such as:

    - Driver Issues: While you've done a clean driver install for the GPU, it's also essential to ensure that all other drivers, such as chipset drivers and BIOS, are updated.

    - Check GPU and CPU temperatures:

High temperatures can lead to thermal throttling, causing your components to reduce performance to prevent overheating. Use monitoring tools to check the temperatures of your GPU and CPU under load.

    - Check for background processes:

Make sure there are no unnecessary background processes consuming CPU resources while you're gaming. Close any unnecessary applications and consider using task manager to identify resource-intensive processes.

I recommend trying a clean boot which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem. How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

    - Power Settings: Ensure your power settings are set to High Performance in Windows settings. This setting ensures that your CPU is running at its full potential.

    - Game settings or mods that are too demanding for your hardware. You should adjust your game settings to match your hardware capabilities and your personal preference. You can lower the resolution, graphics quality, or frame rate limit to improve your FPS, or use the recommended settings by the game or by your GPU driver. You should also avoid using any mods or shaders that might add extra load to your CPU or GPU, or cause compatibility issues with the game.

I hope these suggestions can help you solve your low FPS problem and enjoy your gaming experience. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me.

    Your Sincerely

Forza Horizon 4 running at 10 fps with a gtx 1050

I think I might just have fixed it, I tried changing cpu, from ab i5 7400, to an i3 6100, and it climbed to 50 fps on medium, still not perfect, but most likely just bottlenecked by the cpu, that was throttling, because as it was just a test, I didn't
bother to place my cooler in, and it was running at 2GHz, so yeah, I'll try to place my I5 back, and see if it will still run badly

The amount of revenue created from advertising on XBL more than negates the need for a subscription, Microsoft wants the 100's of millions in subscription fees and the fees for advertising, that's like me wanting my cake and eating it, then stealing yours
    and eating that too...

[/quote]No it's not like you having your cake and eating it too. It's called running a Business. Businesses are supposed to generate Revenue and Profit, not break even. Last time I checked MS was a Business, not a Charity.
