Is Microsoft really betrayig us?

This would not be a betrayal in the least.

What WOULD be a betrayal, is if they decided to make some games exclusive to the updated version. Or have developers lock content for use only in the newer build. Thankfully, no one in their right mind would do that.

 

It's likely we'll see a new console in the next 2 years. You have to remember, consoles used to come out every 5 years or so. We're closing in on 3 years since both the Xbox One and PS4 came out. That leaves us with 2 more years once November 2016 comes
around.

Of course, we could get what we had last generation, but with everyone complaining about resolution these days, it's likely we'll see a new console around the 5 year mark much like we once were used to.

 

I don't see anything wrong with it. With technology always changing, we need to constantly update things. Thus the reason why Xbox/Microsoft and other competitors are bringing out new consoles. As for purchasing it, I would need to see if I can afford it.
Like most, I am a bit tight on money, considering University is not cheep.

Every year we see new computers been made, and new icore processers invented. Nearly all run on Windows, and other operating systems, but we don't see people complaining.

As others have said, if you look back at the Xbox 360's we had multiple 360's that had been released. We had: Arcade, Premium and so on... Now they have stopped production of the 360's.

With Microsoft saving money, I can't see them bringing out a new console that uses a completely different server, unless it was to replace the Xbox 360 servers. What I can see them doing though, is developing a new version of the Xbox one console, that is
more powerful then the previous.

Although, if they do bring out a new Xbox console, I will buy it

The Xbox 360 came out in 2005 and the Xbox One came out in 2013, and that was ok. Do you really want to cut a 8 year lifespan by the half?

 

If it's true and if this becomes the norm, I really wouldn't see the appeal to console gaming any more. As well buying a PC and buying a machine that a) has no real paywall for online and b) upgrade it how you want to upgrade it. One of the things console
gaming has got over and above PC gaming is the longevity of each console cycle. Take that away and it's pretty pointless carrying on with an under powered gaming machine every 2 or 3 years. Lets be honest, consoles are always going to run a few years behind
technology wise due to the manufacturers wanting to keep costs down.

As for the post above mine, well, going from one extreme to the other isn't the way to do it either. I wouldn't call a 3 year cycle a happy medium.

 

Even with DirectX 12, Azer servers, cloud and Windows 10. Current gens hardware simply can't keep pace with what game developers envision.

Sony and MS both knew it even before current gen launched, Nintindo was the only smart one of the bunch, so while MS/Sony hopes to improve without alienating a good portion of their customer base, its still Nintendo who can *** up the Lions share of the
'trusted' market should MS/Sony botch anything this goaround.

Lets not forget, back when a new console was being released every 3 years, their was more than 3 companies compeating, and the market was open to any tech company willing to test the market.
