    Is Microsoft planning to shut down xbox 360 servers?


    I really don't want them to shut down, I still enjoy playing the for hours sometimes even days on end.

    These things happen. EA have shut down a load of game servers. Like Battlefield MC2 for the 360 I was planning on buying that again. Lord of the Rings Conquest online server was shut down not even a year after the game came out.

    Microsoft announced that the upcoming "Xbox Series X" (formerly "Project Scarlett") will feature backwards compatibility with all previous Xbox generations. So it wouldn't make sense putting money and work into making Xbox 360 games run on their new console,
    and shutting down the servers.

    However, publishers that run their own servers (especially Electronic Arts) are known for shutting down servers for their older games, and this is beyond Microsoft's control.

    But rest assured: Xbox 360 games will continue to work and Microsoft will not shut down Xbox 360 servers themselves for quite some time.

    How long xbox 360 servers is open?

    Seeing as the next generation will be backward compatible with previous generations, i would suspect that the 360 servers will still be available. That is on Xbox side atleast.

    Game developers on the other hand will let the community and Xbox know if they are planning to shut down the servers for their games.
