    I recent bought a new Xbox series x after my Xbox one S started slowing down and eventually stopped working, however the internal hard drive seems to be working completely fine when plugged into my laptop and reformatted to a regular storage device. If plugged into my series x I have the option to make the old hard drive an external hard drive for games or media. Is this option safe? Or will it cause problems on my new Xbox series X?

    One reason for that is that Xbox One does not allow for a swapout of the internal hard drive. The only way to boost storage is through the use of external hard drives.

    Xbox Series optimized games will only work on the internal storage, so would have to be copied there to play them anyway. But if games that are stored on your external hard drive that not optimized and are playing up, then it would sound like it is failing.

    How old is the external drive? Hard disc drives (HDD) will fail after a while. Especially if it is old. Time for a new one....

    Is this game stored on your Internal Storage or External hard drive? If it's on your External Hard drive kindly move it to your Internal Storage then remove the hard drive. This is to check if it's due to the external hard drive.

    I'm gonna be more specific: the game doesn't accept installation on external storage. Whether it's flash drive or external hard drive, the game isn't meant to install on external storage connected through USB just like Need for Speed Rivals on Xbox 360.
    You need to install it on an internal hard drive (media hard drive). The link I provided to you aren't external hard drives; they're internal hard drives for the Xbox 360:
