Covering the entire surface with tape just to remove a bit of dust seems like a good and quality but slightly over-eccentric idea to me. If you want to do it then that's great but I'm not fussed enough about a few light scratches to steer away from the ease
of use you get from the simple swipe of a micro fibre.

  2. Covering the whole surface? No... You take a small strip, hold it with your hands & dab the console with the strip of tape repeatedly. Replace tape whenever necessary.

  7. Thing I don't like about using tape is that many kinds of tape leave behind residue, not usually very noticeable at first. If done often, that residue will start to build up. Most of the time that residue is sticky... which will attract dust... and therefore
defeat the very purpose of using it. One would have to be very careful about the kind of tape they used.

I rarely touch my console with any kind of cloth, even microfiber. Even the smallest piece of dust or spec of dirt that has been trapped from previous use (and it doesn't always wash out) can cause scratches on that finish. I use a Swiffer and just very
lightly dust it off. Works great if you do it regularly and often and I have 0 scratches as of yet.

Although... I am starting to look into a skin for it. Might be nice to dress it up a little, especially since it's going to be around awhile.

  9. Good point, Blue Illusion, but that's why I recommend the simple tape that's less likely to be sticky - scotch tape, I think was good.

Dynamic the case for the slim 360 I had was awesome (black standard plastic). Never in the years of its use did it ever look dirty. Would choose that material over gloss any day of the week.

KLR Lol! I am past the point of no return for that, its like I could play noughts and crosses.

    I have been a Radar Tech for better than 25 years. With that being said;

Vacuums are fine to use. As long as you have a plastic tip on the wand, your okay.

    -

Compressed air on electronics is fine as well. Unplug it before using the air.

@KLRSKIR - The manual says not to use compressed air?

I've built gaming PC's for decades and have used compressed air to clean consoles, PC's and just about every other electronic device that has fans or can be prone to overheating without ever having an issue caused by using compressed air.

As was previously stated with smoking even humidity in the air can cause the dust to clump and become a nasty mess. As long as the console has multiple vents on the case you'll remove dust from inside the console with air. It's not as efficient as breaking
open a PC to clean it but it'll definitely make a difference.

Dusting the outside is purely for appearance. Vacuums are a huge no-no, they are prone to holding static charges from vacuuming carpet, furniture, etc and if you touch your console with it you could have a new doorstop.

    I use this
    www.amazon.com/.../ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_1
and the 1000 plus reviews on Amazon would agree with me that it works. Most compressed air cans have a bittering agent added to it which can leave a film so the above is a much better option and cheaper in the long
    run.
