Is it really necessary?

Just different for everyone.

For me games like the recent Tomb Raider shouldn't have MP stuck on, just concentrate on making the campaign as good as it can be, more SP content etc

Call of Duty/Battlefield, I'd imagine the majority of gamers only buy it for the MP so would the developers time be better spent on adding more to the MP than worrying about SP? but then how many sales would they lose?

Take Titanfall for example, I got bored of the beta pretty quickly but if it had some sort of SP campaign or even a co-op type horde mode I might of been tempted, others would say what I've said about other games, don't worry and just concentrate on the
MP ..

I wish they would stamp down on specific game genres,I would love to see alot more just MP,just Solo and jst super co-operative games alot more of them,they all work so much better when focused on each specific thing.

So many games have been ruined because they have tryed to focus on all 3 in 1 game.

But hey look tfall plantsvzombies full MP evolve full super co-op(i believe) MSG5 full single player again i beleive...mad max is defo single player so buzzin about that.

I think FPS games should go all MP but as for other games I think it's a bad idea. What would happen to incredible games like the oblivion series, fallout, the batman arkham series, witcher etc. some games should focus on single player only and not tack
on mp. I've enjoyed the 150 + hours I've played on skyrim, or fallout. An only mp gaming environment would be rife with micro transactions.

Btw Duffel, I see you play AC6 yeah? Hit me up if you wanna go some rounds. No su-47 idols tho...unless u really need it...

In some games, a solo/co-op campaign doesn't really seem necessary. This has been my major complaint about Rainbow Six Vegas. The main campaign from both have been dumb and pointless. Fans wait for YEEEEEARS for something....anything! To heck with the
single player campaign that has taken them so long to "perfect". Give us the same game mechanics of the first and second RSV and let us buy 10-20 new maps a year. Maybe an occasional upgrade. I'm just about to the point where I've lost interest in the game
all together. So yeah, I agree that some games are better off as being exclusively multiplayer.

I had such a blast on single player COD and Battlefield campaigns. I will not support any company that leaves out single player or multiplayer yet charges the same amount as games that have both. Thats my stance, wont be playing Titanfall until it hits
the bargain bin. Sure you can make a multiplayer game only but dont go try charging the same amount if you didnt put the same effort into providing for all gamers and not just the multiplayer fanatics.

yes a story mode is important for so many reasons & theres no reason not to have one

theres plenty of room on that blu-ray disc.

is there any doubt EA will microtransaction titanfall to death & include a story mode for yup download only.

tee'hee EA says sell 'em the multi player 1st for $60 then we will sell them the rest of the game online for $39.99

They're doing something different, merging campaign with multiplayer, and focusing purely on delivering one solid experience rather than two possibly mediocre experiences.

I'd say Respawn are doing the right thing.

I think that certain fps games work well with a single player element (Halo) and other shooters that are more multiplayer focused can do without singleplayer (Call of Duty/ Battlefield). I am not against having a single player component in an fps game as
long as the story is original and the overall experience is memorable. I think Respawn made the right choice by going online only. Hopefully this means they could deliver a significant amount of content that will keep the experience fresh post launch. (Otherwise
..... the game wouldn't be worth 60 bucks as is.)

For me the only FPS that must have solo and MP is Halo....

The rest,shouldn't have one,on FPS like COD or Battlefield,the solo mode is only here to justify a new game release,and usually solo part doesn't use what makes those games great....

And FPS like Half Life,Bioshock shouldn't have MP modes....

And i'm more than please that Titanfall got this all in one vibe,story and MP mix together.....

Well, in general I won't even try a game if there is not a single player mode, that's what I buy them for. I might try the multiplayer mode if I like the single player mode though (But I usually prefer single player mode, I usually just play multiplayer
for a little bit just to try it out).

But I have no idea how many other people are like me so that's purely anecdotal.

I do have to agree that it probably is better if games don't try to tack on a SP/MP to a game that is mostly focused on the latter (So a single player game is best when they focus their resources on the single player vs. tacking on a MP function and vice versa).
So this game may be great for people who do enjoy MP (and who usually are opposite of me and don't care about SP). I mean one reason Witcher 3 got my attention (and actually got me realizing it existed and trying Witcher 2 while waiting for 3) was the fact
the developer outright said they were not going to make an MP cause they wanted to focus on the story/single player experience. I wish more developers would do that. I don't mind some developers doing the opposite like with Titanfall long as we still also
get single player games (I will get irritated though if the trend is to just give up on the SP experience. I guess I'll just have to become an old school gamer and ignore new games then).

I agree sword. How many time have we had great single player games with a totally tacked on mp experience that could've easily have been left out. A perfect example of this is farcry 3. It's just my opinion but the mp in that game to me was atrocious and
could have easily been left out. Perhaps in favour of putting co op into the main campaign mode. Now that would have been sweet!

I cancelled my pre-order for Titan Fall when I found out there is no single player campaign. MP is fine if you like it but not everyone does, so as far as I'm concerned, Activision is losing money by not including it. Halo had a great SP campaign and MP,
so I don't see why Titan Fall couldn't do the same.

Is it really necessary?
