Is it really necessary?

If gamers are ok with SP only games then they should be ok with MP only games too. Personally, I think people want to play it but because it doesn't meet the standards set by themselves they won't. I do wish fighting games would do away with stories. I guess
they can keep their random arcade endings but they are pointless anyway.

 

I LOVE story campaigns that are done well, with atmosphere and an intriguing story; especially horror or survival/horror...or like Bioshock and Mass Effect.

However, Titanfall, in my opinion stands on its own merits. Doesn't need a single story campaign. The MP is addicting and tons of fun - and to me just doesn't get old. Can't wait for the full version in March.

 

For sure , I've nothing against the idea of MP only games as long as they are well supported for a good couple of years after with reasonably priced and plentiful DLC .

 

@dainja Or they could just release high quality expansions to the MP every year. SP campaigns don't need to be in the equation to churn out content every year anymore.

 

I'm usually not very in to multiplayer. And I'm always preaching about how not every game needs MP. And it annoys the crap out of me when I hear people saying things like "Fallout should have MP." The lack of a multiplayer component allows them to allocate
more resources towards producing a superior single player experience.

The same applies to Titanfall, except vice versa. And if you're not in to MP, then Titanfall is simply not for you. I was happy to let the MP guys have a game just for them so they would stop trying to come after established single player franchises. That
is, until I played the beta.

I don't like MP. I suck at it. I might a play a little bit with friends. Or maybe go after a few achievements. But since the start of this beta, and until the end of it, I won't be playing anything else. This game is frickin amazing. If you had told me a
year ago that on this day I would have a MP only game paid off and be super hyped about it, I would have laughed and told you how cute you are.

 

The quality of the campaigns has really declined with the releases which primarily focus on multiplayer. It's not like CoD and Battlefield come with lengthy, engaging, quality campaigns. There was a time when that may have been the case, see Bioshock 2,
CoD4, BF: Bad Company 2. I'd much rather they'd focused on a more wholesome multiplayer experience than tack on a half-baked campaign.

Titanfall is doing exactly that.

 

I cancelled my pre-order for Titan Fall when I found out there is no single player campaign. MP is fine if you like it but not everyone does, so as far as I'm concerned, Activision is losing money by not including it. Halo had a great SP campaign and MP,
so I don't see why Titan Fall couldn't do the same.

 

^That's very interesting Sword as I still have your original attitude toward the game, so who knows maybe I can even be turned one day.

Although, there's a few games that spring to mind that have provided solid SP and MP experiences in the one game and I know Titanfall could have provided that as well, but then maybe the multiplayer might have suffered. I don't know, I just can't help but
feel a little cheated with no SP.

 

I agree sword. How many time have we had great single player games with a totally tacked on mp experience that could've easily have been left out. A perfect example of this is farcry 3. It's just my opinion but the mp in that game to me was atrocious and
could have easily been left out. Perhaps in favour of putting co op into the main campaign mode. Now that would have been sweet!

 

For FPS's its not a problem, since the campaigns in most of them are boring, I think Reach and black ops were the last FPS's where I really enjoyed the campaign. Ghosts campaign was fun(not great not bad though) but god damn BF4 campaign was a snorefest.

 

For me I always play the single player 1st before I play the multiplayer. That's one reason I probably won't get titanfall cause there's no single player campaign.

 

Games like BF should go back to just being MP and hopefully they will release in a more finished state. Games like Bio infinite and games of similar ilk should never venture into MP as they are often mediocre and not long lasting. On games like that id prefer
more DLC Free or cheaper as they didn't have to worry about developing a MP portion but still will charge the same. These companies no the numbers online and should really concentrate on what people most want from there game.

 

I want as much content on one disc as possible, but I don't want developers to waste resources on SP/MP for the sake of just having it. Some games don't need a single player or multiplayer mode, and others work great with both
modes. Respawn Entertainment is a small team, so maybe that's the reason for no campaign mode.

 

Well, in general I won't even try a game if there is not a single player mode, that's what I buy them for. I might try the multiplayer mode if I like the single player mode though (But I usually prefer single player mode, I usually just play multiplayer
for a little bit just to try it out).

But I have no idea how many other people are like me so that's purely anecdotal.

I do have to agree that it probably is better if games don't try to tack on a SP/MP to a game that is mostly focused on the latter (So a single player game is best when they focus their resources on the single player vs. tacking on a MP function and vice versa).
So this game may be great for people who do enjoy MP (and who usually are opposite of me and don't care about SP). I mean one reason Witcher 3 got my attention (and actually got me realizing it existed and trying Witcher 2 while waiting for 3) was the fact
the developer outright said they were not going to make an MP cause they wanted to focus on the story/single player experience. I wish more developers would do that. I don't mind some developers doing the opposite like with Titanfall long as we still also
get single player games (I will get irritated though if the trend is to just give up on the SP experience. I guess I'll just have to become an old school gamer and ignore new games then).

 

I love playing solo but co-ops with a friend is also fun to roll through the campaign. Now that I'm a getting to be older I really don't like playing with randoms.
