    is it possible to view movies from x one via a wd tv player


    hi everyone, first post here and hope you can help me.

    i have a 1tb drive connected to x one which i use to watch movies n play music etc,

    i used to have a wdtv live player in place before the x one and wanted to know if i can connect the two.

    setup - xbox one downstairs connected to house broadband via wired connection, upstairs is my wd tv live player connect to network via wifi and also a tv.

    is there any way to get the xbox one to allow my wd tv player to see the hdd on the network, attached to the xbox, and play the movies upstairs.

    OR. if i connect the hdd to the wd tv live player can the xbox be set to see the wd device and play movies etc, that ar on hdd.

    Watching movies with External Hard Disks

    I have two WD external 1tb hard disks with movies on them, can I hook them up to the xbox via usb and watch movies off them through the xbox to my tv?

    Good day

    The Xbox One S doesnt support 4k gaming. Only supports 4k movie viewing.

    For 4k gaming you will need to have a Xbox One X and a 4k TV.

    1. Settings > TV & OneGuide > Troubleshooting > Audio

    2. WD TV Live is it a safe guess that it is a Western Digital External HDD?

    3. Using the Xbox One as a storage device, not exactly. You are able to stream via Play To (through Media Player), OneDrive (cloud save formally known as SkyDrive), or via SmartGlass.

    Years ago you could log in online to watch movies you purchased. Now with movies anywhere that’s seems to be a solution but it’s also a problem. Why can’t I watch my purchases?

    Digital movies purchased form the Microsoft store are only streamed to your console, there is no download option so you require a connection to view them.

    On a Windows 10 PC you can use the Movies and TV app to download them for offline viewing.

    Smartglass...

    My understanding is that Smartglass will let you use your phone to control movie playback on your Xbox connected to your TV. It doesn't allow you to stream movies from the Xbox to your phone. Certainly not when you're out of range of your home wifi network.

    You may be able to stream movies via Xbox Movies but that's a pay per view service. It's streaming from Microsoft's servers, not your Xbox.

    I am hardwired into my own network (with several drives). Each drive has a separate group of movies... One is movies A-H, another I-Z, another is TV shows, another animation, multi part movies (like LOTR, James Bond, etc.) WD organizes them well enough for
    me as they are all alphabetized. I have .mkv, .mp4, and several other types, but most are .iso raw. That is why I like the WD, it plays nearly anything you throw at it.
