Is it possible to sort my friends list by activity?

Currently no, there is no way to sort by game.

There seems to be an idea already on the feedback page, so I'd reccomend giving that a vote if you think it is what you want, or if not then creating your own idea for this feature

Had this myself & it was a friends request sent from a 360.

I was able to sort it by going to my friends list on xbox.com but if it's not there you may have to go to your friends list on a 360.

Been playing with it for an hour now, it is great. I setup my pins already. My a favorites list from my friends list. I can view activity from my friends on 360.

did you get the problem fixed? I am also experiencing a problem with the lack of activity feed. I cannot see any of MY activities nor any of my achievements etc. but I CAN see activity feed of only ONE of my friends on my friends list and nothing for the
rest of my friends.

After doing what PR1NCE DARKNESS has suggested and it's still not there, please check if you have an active and paid for Gold Subscription too. It's possible that your friend's list isn't popping up since you're on Silver.
