Is it possible to replace internal Hard Drive to 2TB or even 4TB+ still on the XBONE? +Max HDD ...

I'm aware doing so will void warranty since you physically have to open it up and that has nothing to do with my question so as I was asking:

I remember reading it was possible to upgrade to 2TB in the past before 1 & 2TB consoles came out. However recently reading about it in newer posts a software update may of broke this? I want to know if it's still possible to replace the internal hard drive
and have the XBOX ONE work with no issues.

Also what is the max capacity size supported if this is still possible? (4TB is minimum I want to upgrade to also the default speed on the 500 GB stock is @ 5400 rpm when I checked specs online). 2nd Question assuming it's still possible (without issues
once all set up and done) should I go with a SSD Hybrid or just get a regular one with 7200 RPM or only bother with 5900 RPM if 7200 RPM's performance in loading/speed is barely noticeable?

P.S. If it's no longer possible than thats +1 for sticking to custom built PC's over consoles since a simple HDD swap isn't asking very much in my opinion even if it requires formatting/loading software to the new hard drive before hand.

    :)

xbox 360 slim max supported capacity for hard drives?

my old old faithful xbox 360 finally gave up the ghost after years of loyal service on Saturday night when I was greeted with the red ring of death so I ran to the shop,s on sunday & bought a 2nd hand 4gb xbox 360 slim in top condition from a games store
    & also a 500gb internal drive.

got home & set up the new console but after placing the hard drive inside & switching on it did not show up, thinking it was possibly damaged I ran to a different shop & bought a 320gb hd biggest they had in stock but again the drive when placed inside the
console does not show up in storage & both times with the 500gb & 320gb were missing & only the 4gb internal memory was labelled as storage.

then for what ever reason I thought about using the connections from my laptops external backup caddy & both the 500gb & 320gb hd's show up as external usb storage devices & will format with no problems. it popped into my head that the problem could then
be with the console not picking up internal drives.

to check this I went to my nephews & both the 320gb & 500gb hard drives both show in his xbox as internal hard drives but his current 120gb drive also shows up as a hard drive when I installed it in my xbox so bang went the theory that the xbox itself was
possibly damaged & not able to pick up internal drives.

this got me thinking if both the 320gb & 500gb hard drives are working in a different machine & a 120gb drive works in my machine could it be that not all xbox 360 slim models will support the bigger internal drives?

I know the most common drives are the 250gb so was wondering if some xbox 360 slim only support up to a max of 250gb & perhaps limited edition or later models than mine only have the software to support the bigger hard drives, is this possible?

can somebody please confirm or deny this theory or suggest a reason why some drive wont show up in my machine but will in others yet other drives will show up in my machine. im baffled.

Internal Hard Drive Replacement and max capacity

It is advised against changing out the internal hard drive. It will definitely void any warranty that you may still have on the console.

I know you are not interested in managing two drive but if you buy a large external drive you can move the content from your internal and make the external the primary drive and the system does most of the managing for you. The only thing that I have on
my internal drive is the OS. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Hey there ShiroDust Is it possible to replace internal Hard Drive to 2TB or even 4TB+ still on the XBONE? +Max HDD ... :)

Unfortunately, swapping HDDs on the console isn't really supported, as you know.

It may be possible if you are willing to void your warranty. There are many known issues such as problems with adjusting the partition size and physically fitting a large capacity drive inside the console.

I would stick to expanding the console's storage capacity with external drives such as the
    My Passport X.

Just to add to above if the Xbox servers detect you have made a modification such as changing the internal hard drive of the console it may end up getting the console permanently banned from connecting Xbox live.

*sigh* so sad to hear that they might ban from xbox live for a hard drive swap to increase capacity/storage space. (Could an ADMIN confirm if this is true or not please?). Trying to modify it to cheat etc I'd understand but hearing simply swapping HDD to
have more storage could be a ban able offense is very disappointing. What I loved about the PS3 (bought used) was that it had an easy pop out and in a new HDD and it formatted then boom it worked. I Just don't know why more consoles don't do this. The fact
that they want to prevent us from doing so (the honest community at least) even if we're willing to void the warranty to do so disgusts me.

Reason: Internal is less likely to drop/fall/break since an external sits loose and is smaller on it's own. I just see no reason to use an external when I want a big internal HDD to store everything and I prefer digital over discs (unless good discount used
somewhere). Especially since then there is no need to hunt for discs and the library is kept all in one place easy to find.

One platform allows you to upgrade your internal drive while not being able to install games on external drives while the other allows you to install games on one or more external drives while not being able to upgrade the internal drive.

Either way you have options to increase your storage capacity.

Having all games on one single internal drive shouldn't be considered safer as the drives are pretty much the same with the difference being that the external drives have their own enclosure. In the end, the drives are pretty much the same.

If you want larger capacities you can always opt out for a 3.5" desktop external drive such as the WD My Book or even the WD My Book Duo.

If you want data safety it may be a better idea to have multiple smaller drives instead of a single larger drive where if it fails you would lose all data instead of only part of it.

Larger capacity internal drives are with different form factors and you may not be able to fit a 3.5" drive unless you do some modifications on your console. 2.5" drives don't have the massive capacities of 3.5" drives.

Xbox One Hard Drive Full at 362 GB

    Okay - 350GB isn't great - I concur.

But neither console comes with "enough" (I think PS4 comes in around 420GB) - but I if the X1 allowed the hard-drive to be replaced (easily without voiding waranty) then I still would not replace it.

Why? Because what would I replace it with? 2TB? Odds on in a few years we'll be laughing at 2TB - it still won't be "future proof". So if you change your internal drive and then have to upgrade to, for example, a 4TB, in a few years time then you'll have
to somehow work out how to copy across all your data from one internal drive to another.

I prefer the use of external drives - by the time I need one a) it will be much cheaper to get a 4TB than getting a 2TB today and b) I can hide it behind my AV setup and c) it will be easy. (And the data rates between internal and USB3.0 external are similar).
