Is it possible to migrate my boxed physical MSFS2020 license to Digital?

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently inquiring about a method to convert physical license of a game to a digital one.

At this time, there is no way to do this. The only way to get a digital copy of the title would be to purchase the game digitally, even if you own the physical copy.

However, this is a part of
Xbox Game Pass for PC. If you have this subscription then you should be able to launch the game using this digital version.

Thanks for the prompt reply and confirmation. It is a little disappointing.

If at all possible, please do log this topic (migrate license from physical to digital) with the MSFS team for review as a future service to offer customer who have purchased the physical product.

A DVD in my reader tray for the next 10 years of sim flying MSFS2020 is a concern from an accidental damage / reliability point of view. Please also pass on my congratuations on a groundbreaking return to the roost for Microsoft FS!

Unfortunately it isn't yet possible to convert a physical game into digital, it's two different licenses. You need to purchase a new digital game license.

When you play a game installed from a physical disc you need to have the disc inserted to start the game. So for digital, you can insert the disc so would need a digital license. At the moment it is not possible to transfer physical to digital licenses.

It isn't possible to do so at the moment, as the physical discs are a license of the digital files it installs/downloads.

To best sort it by physical and digital, you can either get an external drive and put all of 1 type on the internal, and the other on the external -- or you could pin physical copies so they show up on their own, separated from digital games.
