Is it illegal to customize game files

Its an offline game. What I want to do is just get a skin thats already in the game and copy it and change it with another file. So what i'm doing is just having two different characters but with the same skin.

Game Sharing - Is it illegal?

So I was wondering, if you game share a game that someone else has bought, but play it for free, would it be fraudulent or piracy? Effectively if you pay for one game but get 2 copies that would be downright ripping the game developers off, wouldn't it?

With the Home setting on the One, you are allowed to share games. However, it is recommended your own console is set as your Home and you're sharing games with people in your own household. But technically you could set any console you want as your Home
and share games that way. So it isn't really illegal, you won't get arrested for it. But yeah, sharing outside of the home, really isn't fair to the developers.

If you're modifying any kind of content on the console, then yes, you're breaking the rules which can result in a life time ban on the offending account.

Like mentioned by DigitalAssassin it's not allowed. See this part from the code of conduct 'Do not make unauthorised modifications to your account profile or its contents, including but not limited to tenure, Avatar, saved games, Gamerscore or achievements.'

It's a grey area in many countries, running emulation is not actually illegal in a lot of countries, and running a game that you have purchased through emulation is also not illegal in many countries but the bios, system files used in the emulator to simulate the 360 are illegal, hence the very grey area.

Emulation in itself is perfectly legal. Distributing pirated ISO files is illegal.

Downloading old games is technically illegal, but concerns 'Civil Law' not 'Criminal Law'. There is little chance of you going to prison because you downloaded 'Ms. Pacman' for an Atari 2600 emulator for example.

If he is using an illegal copy he has some system modifications to run illegal copies. Luckily it isn't as easy as burning a game disc from a downloaded file. Report him using the in game and he will hopefully eventually get his console as well as his account
banned permanently from Live.
