Is internet required to install disc based Xbox original/360 games on Xbox one

I have been searching over the support forums and a few other places, and I cant seem to find a direct answer to my question

If you have the disc for the game, do either Xbox original or Xbox 360 games require an internet connection to install on the Xbox One?

I have several places saying 'Yes', several places saying 'Yes, but only for the initial download' and several places saying 'No'

I just want a straight answer (hopefully from a professional)

**Side note, if the answer is 'Yes' or 'Yes, but only for the initial download', is there a reason as to why?

Hi, yes you can install disc based games and play them on the xbox one without an internet connection.

It's not quite an update, it's the entire game. The Xbox One doesn't install anything at all off the Xbox 360 disc; it uses the disc as a licence check and then downloads the entire Xbox One-compatible version of the game.

That detail doesn't change the answer, though: as you say, an Internet connection is absolutely required.

 

Also I mean any model of Xbox One, be it the Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X

 

you need internet connection for the initial installation of backward compatible games,some need patches so the game can run fine.

When you insert a disk in the X1 of a backwards-compatible game, you'll need an internet connection in order to download the next-gen console version. There will be an alert that allows the game to be used on X1. Then you can use the "Offline" function or
stay connected to download the updates necessary for the game (or play in multiplayer mode).

 

in what way was this seen as a good idea.

do xbox one games require an internet connection to install too?

and do some xbox 360 or xbox one games not even work after the initial installation, if they don't have a internet connection?
