Is internet needed to stream using Windows Media Center?

I have used win media center to stream movies for years. The pc is Win 7 and we have dsl.

Our internet went out a couple of days ago and now I am unable to stream to the Xbox. Shows I am still on the network but since internet went out I cannot connect.

Its all on the same network and have never had a problem until we shut off our dsl (switching to cable again. But dsl was unexpectedly turned off 2 weeks early)

Is anyone familiar with this? I would like to be able to continue streaming movies I own until our internet is back up.

Thank you for any assistance.

Ps If it matters, I have also let the Live gold subscription lapse because I didn't want to pay while unable to use it.

:)

Media Centre vs Media Player

If you are using Windows XP Media Centre Edition you will gain nothing by using Media Centre to stream over Media Player.

Streaming Media from my PC to my Xbox One

I am unable to stream media from my PC (Windows 8) to my new Xbox One. Previously, I could stream media from this PC to my Xbox 360. All I needed to do was right click the media (in this case an MP4) and then select "Play to Xbox 360". The Xbox One is definitely
on the network and I can do some control of the device using the Windows 8 Xbox One SmartGlass app.

On the Xbox 360, this was done pretty much according to this forum article:

Streaming Media from your PC to your Xbox 360

Anyone have an idea why I can't stream media to the Xbox One?

Thanks!

Media Centre is officially "dead". (Because hey, advertising that the Xbox One can do the exact same thing that the 360 can do is apparently a good thing).

In any case, this isn't a simple yes or no. It should be a no, but the 360 is kind of picky about when it wants to work. I would run the Media Centre setup again, and make sure that your router is giving out IP addresses. If your LAN is still up, everything
should theoretically work.
That's why, you follow the steps I mentioned about turning Media Streaming on in Windows 7 via WMP
WMP and Media Center Extender are not related.
& it shows the Xbox360 extender... You NEED Media Streaming turned
on
Windows Media Player
streams over port 10245, 443, and a random external port
. Windows Media Center requires a

whole host of ports
, none of which are port 10245.

& Windows Media Player is a part of Windows Media Center
No, it's not. It's a separate executable.
How do you think you watch videos in
Windows Media Center....??????
Playing a video is not the same as running a Media Extender.

Windows streaming is "Visually" turned off on Windows 7 & it works in the background with the Windows Media Center Driver Installation & all the driver does, is tell the Media Streaming Utility that Windows Media Center is Streaming & not Windows Media Player..
Because, as I've mentioned before, Windows Media Player is used in the PC's Windows Media Center Application... You can check your Advanced Network & Sharing Settings & see if the WMC Extender is active in the Media Streaming option... That's why I said
to look there & you all argue over it...

-

You can't stream Audio to your Xbox Music Player while playing games online either, if you are using the dedicated Windows Media Center Application & you have to exit WMC to play games on the Xbox360...

-

You can if you create a "Windows Media Player Playlist" & turn Media Streaming on, in WMP Streaming Tab..

-

The Xbox360 Music Player, Video Player & Picture Viewer, works off your WMP Library & the Music, Video & Picture Folders in Windows & all you have to do is have your files in those folders & be Logged into Windows.. Nothing else..

You do not need to open any programs or applications & your Xbox360 can access the mentioned folders & you could have up to 2TB of Music per HDD (More in RAID), Videos & Pictures to view on your Xbox360, without using Windows Media Center etc..

NAS Media Servers, do the same thing & only need to be connected to your Networks router...
