Blue has the right of it, Genchy. My modem and my router are 2 separate devices. The technician was even kind enough to set up the modem and router so they wouldn't interfere with 1 another and use the best features of both (which would primarily be the
router, since it is top of the line, like I said), which was something that wasn't necessarily done with the old modem.

Rippen, the old modem was 9 years old, not 8 - so basically, for as long as I've been on XBL, I've been running on the same modem. ><

2. With all that money you've been paying to rent that ancient modem over the last 9 years, you could have bought probably a dozen of your own. I'll never understand why people pay such a premium to rent things from the cable company when you could buy them
outright for the price of about 6-8 months rental. Just shows cable companies love preying on suckers.

3. Or you could tell them. 'I am not going to rent, or purchase a device which is required in order for your services to function at my location.'

Takes about 10 minutes to gat it that past their. 'Sir, it is our policy that the modem has to be either rented or purchased.' Mentality. But once they see that as a potiential customer, you will not budge. You'll often hear this.

'Okay, we'll wave the rental fee's'

GG...If you look closely at all the line item fees on your monthly bill, there is likely a modem/equipment fee. This is essentially "renting" the modem. I buy my own modems/routers, as you can save money in the long run. Likewise, many of the modems provided
by the isp are crap.

6. Burnin, I looked at all of my family's Internet bills for the past 6 months both online and off (physical bill) in great detail 2 days ago. I think that's something I would've noticed if it was there - it wasn't.

Well I live and learn, maybe its a US thing, every BB provider I have had in the UK just provides an "all in" device...Mind you I've only been with Sky and Virgin...

It's the same with BT Genchy who I've been with since broadband was available in my area.

Before we moved to fibre it was the old BT Voyager modem we had. Just the one device, power lead and broadband line you had to plug into to. Then you just connected either by using ethernet cables or wireless.

Once on fibre we received the new Home Hubs, again one device, plug the power and broadband line into it and away you go.

10.
Then it is included in your monthly cost, believe me it is not free.
. I highly doubt that, but the only way to tell for sure would be to keep an eye on subsequent bills and to constantly ask questions directed at our ISP.
That being said, our bills have always been itemized - they break it down and tell you exactly, piece by piece, what you're paying for. If it's "included" under a vague phrase such as "additional costs" for example, then that's what's called a "hidden fee"
and is frowned upon by consumers in the U.S., as it's a dirty and unscrupulous way to make money. I'm sure something like that could be taken to court or countered in some way.

My girlfriend has AT&T. She was given the initial Modem/Router with her install; it went bad two years in (Power Surge.) and either had to buy another off them or get her own.

I also have no modem fee with Verizon.

Peace, J.R.

12. Well, I did ask the tech guy how long the modem was expected to last - he said 2 years and that it was less than a year old, so I'd say I have about a year and a half left on it. If that's a year and a half of good games without drops (and it has so far),
then I'm all for it. Is Halo 5 making the same mistake as HMCC? ;)

@Fullhornet...now didn't see it as him being penalized for dropping.Thetile of the thread was "Is Halo 5 Making The same mistake as HMCC?"... Is his dropping out the Halo 5 game's fault. Maybe title the thread as "dropped alot",, or "why am I dropping a
lot"... But NOT "Is Halo 5 Making The same Mistake as HMCC?"... No reports anywhere else tho. It must be them...lol
