Is Halo 5 making the same mistake as HMCC?

This thread started with the implication that Halo 5 may be the cluster"----" that MCC was. Turns out it's some dude with connection issues...maybe check if the issue is yours b4 making an inflamatory statement like that as a title thread. Just cuz you have
an issue doesn't mean the end of the world for other gamers...

Yeah COD's had it's day.

We really need another multiplayer shooter to take it's crown.

Maybe Halo 5 will regain the crown. I'm hoping Halo 5 doesn't make the same mistake as the MCC and have a stupid voting system that's rigged for team slayer BR. Playing that game mode over and over again really annoys me.

Do that and Halo 5 will be a flop. It's needs to appeal to new players and not just the hardcore halo 2 fans. And forcing everyone to play the same game mode over and over again due to a rigged voting system will put new players off.

 

There's still no actual confirmation that it's from a problem on my end - everyone just kind of steered it in that direction (myself included).

Raist, a drop can happen to anyone at any time regardless of connection quality (it could be an effect from someone else having a poor connection in the game, for example). It's the fact that I was penalized so quickly and for such a minor thing that concerns
me. Despite it being a minor punishment, if it does it that quickly and then steamrolls even further as a result, that can be a very, very bad thing. I just emphasize my connection as a part of the discussion, because there are thousands of gamers and Halo
fans that have similar connections that may suffer from these overtly strict in-game policies. And IMO, they ARE too strict as of now. As much as everyone wants to be a part of progress (by having good, quality connections), it's simply not an option that's
available for everyone right now - and I think many developers and publishers are failing to see that, since many of them are just rolling in the dough.

 

I get it GG...but is it the halo developers, MS servers, third party servers, your connection??? Who do you blame...since there's not a lot of reports with connection issues on halo 5, maybe your connection???but to say halo 5 has defects cuz U can't play
it is kinda...well...??? "Is Halo 5 making the same mistake as HMCC?"... Irresponsible?...if u have a problem connecting I get it...blaming someone or something else for it I don't...

 

I have Big Name (I won't mentian them by name) cable at 10mbps, the wirless cablebox is rented with the option to purchase. Often my net services will drop below 1mbps and read as high as 12mbps. 50mbps is available but expensive.

If you speak to the local office about it dropping to 1mbps you'll get the same response as people often get here in the forums. 'Mine works.' and.. 'It tells you in the policy that you will get UP TO 10mbps and remember. 1mbps is still faster than 56k.'

DSL around these parts will often drop to nothing when it rains. So what to do?

Well for one, avoid games which penalize you simply because your net service drops to nothing.

On a more personal note. GG 25% of a part time paycheck isn't what I would call helping out mom. Perhaps a 2nd job and another 45% of that would do the trick yes?

Anywho: Net services will blame everything but themselves for outtages or drops, and 343i/MS will do the same. So how could a H5 MP gamer possibly avoid potiential bans and bad rep? You can't!

So the only winning move is Not To Play then eh?

 

Raist, I'm not blaming anyone or even saying something's defective at all. I'm merely suggesting that the enforcement policies within the game might be a bit tougher than they need to be (but they're not defective, since they work). It's already been stated
by the devs themselves that its policies ARE tougher than they were in the HMCC, and there were NUMEROUS complaints about how bad it was - you probably just haven't heard enough for H5G because it's so new. Trust me though, if it's as tough as I think it is,
those complaints WILL come over time.

Electro, I also help out my mother in other ways too. I often go grocery shopping for her, cook dinners, do yard work, fix up the place, etc. Just yesterday in fact, since I had the day off, I helped her remove some old plastic roofing panels that had rotted
off of our back porch. Today, since I also happen to have the day off (the life of a substitute teacher, let me tell you), I'll be pressure-washing said porch as well as other parts of the house and mowing an entire pasture behind our house. Don't think for
1 second that just because I play games that I'm a slacker or that I don't help out my family. Besides, it's only 25% because she has other sons that ALSO contribute financially - it ensures that everyone helps out, but doesn't burden anyone. This way, I can
still live my own life somewhat independently despite still living at home (which is becoming more common nowadays anyways, with multi-generational families due to the economy and how difficult things have become in the U.S., and as such should NOT be frowned
upon or be considered as a measure of success or failure).

 

GG, I am sure you and yours are doing what needs to be done in order to prosper within harsh economic times. But you yourself said that your mom was concerned about a $200 phone bill and internet usuage was hinted at at being the reason it was 200 bucks.
She then asks you and yours to help cut down on it. Correct?

Yet you have a X1 that you bought sometime after your younger brother bought his. (You said in a thread just some months ago) Now, I imagine from what your already said in this thread that you have data caps and overages costs extra. So DL H5 at 40gb takes
some 8 hours or more to do correct?

So you could be helping to reduce those phone bills correct? Less xbox, streaming shows/movies etc will not only cut phone costs, but electric bills (always goes up on price per kilowatt hour during the winter months, while gas prices drop - reverse in the
spring and summer - just a little FYI for YOU and yours to consider) as well correct?

 

So funny...when the reinforcement policies benefit you then a game is golden....when you can't play then the game is as u said....maybe the same as the broke stuff that happened On MCC...so sad...if u can't connect well....??...

Electro, I'm happy to say that I'm finally making progress (after months of trying) to finally understand what's going on with my network/ISP.

An actual PERSON (yes, an actual person) on the other line was kind enough to inform me that we do have a data usage limit - it's 150gb/month. They check it every week, and if we go over it, they start checking it daily and charging extra for it. They also
mentioned that HD streaming video is usually the biggest culprit and hog when it comes to data usage, at about 3gb+ per viewing. Considering all of the shows and movies my brother and I watch on a weekly basis across Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube, it all adds
up (and I did the math per show per week too - the numbers do check out by the end of the month).

So to combat that, my brother and I have decided that we're not going to watch less, like our mother suggested, but rather what we're going to do instead is to start watching everything at a lower resolution, in order to reduce the amount of data (in essence
going from HD to SD). I've already adjusted the settings in both Hulu and YouTube and have made changes to our account plan on Netflix to reflect this. Also, it's worth noting that the representative on the other end stated that an overage from back in August
(a whopping 900+gb!) was spread out over the course of the past few months, especially this month, which is why it's so much more expensive this month than usual. Hopefully with a little luck, the price will go WAY down, but we won't really know until next
month. :|

That, however, doesn't necessarily solve why my network has been slowing down or for the disconnects I've been experiencing. They ran a test on the line twice (and I did 3 of my own via speedtest.net). On the 2nd run through they found a discrepancy - the
usual 6mbps I was supposed to be getting dropped to about 4mbps on THEIR end. They told me that Federal law prohibits them from going that low (the minimum DL speed an ISP is required to give you in the U.S. is 5mbps), so they're sending a technician out this
very afternoon to check on the lines AND my in-home network between 1 and 5 p.m. eastern time. It will likely cost extra, depending on labor, repairs, and parts, but IMO, if it fixes whatever may be wrong or at least improves it, then I'm okay with that.

 

I almost told you this earlier today.

The problem is not your ISP.

The problem is your package.

You're mum has a basic package for internet and that's why you're exceeding the limit and incurring extra costs.

Streaming video and audio is THE absolute biggest data gobbler you can have. That eats much more data than playing your games.

The solution is to look at what other packages are available to you and see if it would be economic to increase the package. i.e. the monthly regular bill gets higher but it ends up being less because you don't go over the limit and incur extra costs.

Find out what other packages are available and see if you can make a reasonable case to your mother to increase it because of how it will save in the long run.

Also it doesn't matter if you give your mother 10% of your wage or 90% of your wage. If your brother and you run up a high internet bill your brother then you should pay for it.

Why not start the quest for a better package on the right foot and say "Hey mom, look, we didn't realise how much we were driving the bill up but this is what we'll commit to paying you until we clear that extra cost that we incurred".

Then after you've begun to bring that down you're in a good position to say "Hey, you know what, if we paid for this higher package it can actually save us money in the long run. Can we look at doing that"?

At the end of the day honor your mother and if you can't kick back and enjoy the unlimited entertainment that people with full time employment can afford then do without it until you can actually afford it.
