Is game sharing still a thing?

Just ordered an xbox one and about to order the digital deluxe copy of hardline.

I know not long back you could gameshare with another person and i'm hoping to do the same with a friend of mine who will also be getting an xbox one soon.

Is it still a thing that is done/allowed?

Hoping to basically go halves on hardline with my pal which would also make me more inclined to get premium with the money saved.

you only need one person to have a gold subscription as well, unless you (or he) is still using last get.

To make a clear additional note, is that my friend is still, at this moment, playing. So it's not a problem of Game Pass payment, either. This is purely an issue with the game sharing.

 

you can get banned on PS4 doing this.. not sure about X1.. I would actually like to know this as well tbh.

 

yes, your digital games and Xbox Live Gold are tied to your gamertag, so if you setup your friends X1 as your home console, then he will have access to your digital games and Xbox Live Gold, and since it will be the home console, your gamertag does not have
to be signed in, and then when you sign into your console, you will also have access to your games and Live as well.

something to note, you can only set a console as your home console 3 times a year, and i don't believe this is an official feature, so while MS doesn't seem to care, that could change in the future.

 

For the people "sharing" games...if your friend breaks the C.O.C./T.O.U. while playing a game of yours on the Home console that is at their house, would your account get banned? Say he mods lobbies in C.O.D. (Your game/home console), would you get the punishment?
Personally wouldn't want to find out the hard way that was the case.

wouldn't that just happen to that gamertag? i remember seeing people coming to the forums in the past claiming they got banned because their *insert relative* used their account to cause some havoc and them being told they were responsible for their gamertag.

either way, choose your friends wisely.

 

I thought the console ban was more for "modified" consoles? Either way, it's a lot to lose if something goes bad.

 

If I decided not to play on Xbox anymore, could I sell my One to a friend and not leave it set as a home console, allowing him to have all my digital games?

 

Good advice. While you (Not saying you are participating.) may have a great friend/many friends that you could trust, I believe a lot of people are not so cautious with whom they are sharing, and are trying to save a few bucks with someone they don't know
all that well. Microsoft needs to address this practice and tell once and for all if it's acceptable or not, and the rules on how and when; great idea and selling point if it is.

So what's everyone's username and password? Seriously though, MS seem a bit relaxed about this at the moment, I still wouldn't do it as this practice can ban consoles on PSN, It's npt a good idea unless it's family that you can trust.

 

The lad im doing it with is a top lad, known him for years and trust him fully, i was just more concerned about if it was allowed but then i've seen an actual page on xbox.com that tells you how to do it so i'm guessing its pretty ok to do

 

It is a grey area, that kind of feature is mainly allowed for 2 Xbox ones in the same household, in theory YOU must own both consoles for this to be within Microsoft terms and conditions, so whatever you do, keep that in mind as they can enforce their policy
at any time they choose.

 

My son and I were game sharing . Some how I used up my 3 times of switching my home console and didn't have access to my DD games. I called support and they reset it but, they told me not to switch home consoles for a while. If my son wants to play my games
he can just come downstairs to play on my XB1. Game sharing works but , there can be issuse with it (my son switching home consoles more than 3 times).

 

What Farscape said. This "feature" was/is meant for families in a household. It was never intended for people to share games with their buddies to soften the load of purchasing a new game.

I noticed on a YouTube video about a month back, people writing in the comments section, "PM me your email/password... I have X, Y, & Z games and I'm looking for A, B, & C." Seems like a sure fire way to get your account banned for marketplace theft.
