This may mean that there was a service outage just before you tried to sign in.

I'm having the same issue, noticed multiple attempts to sign into my account from multiple countries.

I don't know if there has been a leak of details or something because I've had about 20 the past month from countries like Vietnam, thialand, Mexico, USA (I live in the UK)

I will say, if you haven't done so, change your password and update your security and verification information.

Also if you use the same email/password combo on other sites do it there as well.

For those who would like to play offline until the service issue is resolved, unplug your Ethernet cable/Wireless device from your Xbox and then sign into your console while it is offline. Once you are signed in, you can reconnect your network. It may
then appear as if you are online, but services are down. You should be able to play certain games offline while they work on the issue.
